At the beginning of December it is too early to do such a craft - the needles quickly fall off, but closer to the holiday it is worth going for a spruce sprig. As an option, you can use artificial spruce branches, then the product will remain decorative for many years.

The same cute lanterns are perfect for illuminating the garden, and decoration options depend only on your imagination: it can be autumn leaves, twine, pages of an old book, or just paint.

Everything is upside down

Another way to make an original candlestick is to prepare a beautiful glass, glass or jar using the method described above, but then place the candle not inside the jar, but on its bottom.

Ideas for original candlesticks

If you really need to decorate a room with candles - for some special date or holiday, but there is nothing to put them in, you don’t have to buy something standard and ready-made. You can always make beautiful and unusual candlesticks from paper with your own hands, from wood, cans, plastic, bottles, cups and even from vintage ladles.

Today we will talk about two ways to make a candlestick with your own hands. Each master class gives room for imagination, since based on them you can easily create something of your own.

Candlestick made of plastic disposable spoons in the shape of a lotus

To work with two candlesticks we will need:

  • plastic spoons - quantity depending on the size of the base and the size of the spoons themselves,
  • wire cutters,
  • glue gun,
  • two tablet candles,
  • two small glass shot glasses.
  1. Using pliers, remove the handles from the spoons. They will not be useful to us in our work. We trim the rounded part at the bottom, where the handle was, so that the part becomes as flat as possible.
  2. Apply a drop of glue from a glue gun to the bottom of the workpiece and glue it onto the stack with the concave side inward. You need to glue it not from the very bottom of the stack, but slightly moving upward from it. We place the next workpiece next to the first one so that their side parts are in contact with each other. The third and fourth too. Note that it is better if the diameter of the stack or cup is such that plastic blanks can be glued to it next to each other around the entire circle. In our case, exactly four pieces of plastic spoons fit in a circle.
  3. Let's make the next circle. This time we glue the blanks between the first ones, stepping back slightly downwards. We form the third row in the same way. This time we glue the parts between the elements of the second row, gluing them from the very bottom of the stack. In the fifth row, we apply glue not only to the bottom of the spoon blank, but also to the side parts, in order to glue it both to the bottom of the stack and to the parts with which it comes into contact. We glue between the elements of the previous row, but place the lower part on the same level with them. The video shows the whole process very clearly.

The result should look very similar to a real lotus flower.
We put a tablet candle inside and light it. In the dark, this beautiful candlestick looks especially impressive. If you want a brighter option, you can paint the finished candlestick using spray paint of any color you want. To prevent it from melting from the candle fire, it is better to take a wider glass or stack so that the flame does not touch the plastic.

Candlestick made of coffee beans

What can it be made from? For our work we will need the following materials and equipment:

  • a foam mold 2 centimeters high with an outer diameter of 10 centimeters and an inner diameter of 5 centimeters. You can cut it yourself from a piece of polystyrene foam using a sharp stationery knife, simply marking it, for example, on a jar lid,
  • coffee beans,
  • brown acrylic paint and brush,
  • cardboard or plastic,
  • glue gun,
  • gold colored beads.

The foam mold should resemble a steering wheel in shape, that is, it should have the same rounded edges. As soon as the mold is ready, it needs to be painted with brown paint so that the finished white background under the coffee beans does not spoil the entire appearance of the product.

From cardboard or plastic, cut a circle slightly larger than the inner diameter of the foam blank and paint it the same color. When everything is dry, apply glue to its outer edge using a gun and glue the part from below to the foam ring.

After this, you can start decorating the candlestick. Apply glue to the coffee beans and glue them to the mold over the entire surface as tightly as possible to each other. The spaces between the grains can be decorated with zloty-colored beads, placing them freely over the entire surface of the candlestick.

That's all - the candlestick is ready! It can be done quickly, despite the apparent painstaking and time-consuming process. If you make a candlestick with coffee beans as a gift, it will be perfectly complemented by DIY candles.

And now we will give a few more options for what and how you can quickly and inexpensively make beautiful candlesticks for different occasions.

Candlesticks made of wood and branches

From branches, using a drill, you can make a long candlestick for table decoration. On a branch, which may have an interesting shape, you need to mark places for the candle, and then drill holes. Clean them and put candles on.

From wooden blanks in the shape of a cube or parallelepiped, you can make candlesticks with geometric and other designs. For them, the blanks themselves, white paint, stickers in the shape of a circle and a drill with an attachment for drilling round holes will be useful. Its diameter should be equal to the diameter of the candle you will use. In the center of the workpiece, make a hole with a drill about two and a half centimeters deep. Now you can stick stickers slightly on top of each other along the entire perimeter of the wooden part just below its middle. Paint the top part up to the middle of the pasted stickers. It is better to apply the paint in two or even three layers and wait until it dries. Remove the stickers and put on the candles. This way you can apply your own pattern, take blanks of a different shape and paint of a different color.

And to finish the topic of wooden candlesticks, let’s look at the option of birch stumps with birch bark. Everything is simple here: you need to drill a round hole in the upper part so that the diameter is equal to the diameter of the tablet candle, and place the candle. Perhaps, for a stable composition, it is better to tie three such hemp with candles together with hemp rope.

Glass candlesticks

Two versions of candlesticks can be easily created from bottles. The first is when the bottom of a wine bottle is removed using simple manipulations. You need to mark a cutting line with a glass cutting device, open hot water and pour it onto the bottle, slowly turning it in a circle, immediately repeat this with cold water. The bottle itself will split along the line. Next you need to take a candle, light it, and cover it with a bottle without a bottom.

And the second version of a bottle candlestick is somewhat reminiscent of the one we made from wooden blanks in the shape of a cube. Bottles, knitted or paper napkins, spray paint and gloves are useful for this. Don't forget to protect the layer with newspaper or film so as not to damage it during work. You need to wrap the bottle with a napkin, apply paint, wait for everything to dry and remove the napkin. This way you can decorate bottles without a bottom, or you can place long candles in the neck of entire decorated bottles.

You can create a real sea candlestick from a jar. A mesh with large cells and threads will be useful for it. You need to wrap the jar with mesh, and then secure it at the neck with thread.

It’s even easier to make a candlestick from a glass with your own hands. It is enough to turn it over, place flowers, for example, or a figurine inside, and place a candle on the leg. This is an option for those who have absolutely no time left to come up with something.

A variety of candlesticks in five minutes

Tin cans can be used to make unusual candlesticks for the garden, for example, if you paint them and then make perforations in the form of some kind of pattern. The more holes you get, the more light the candlestick will give. A craftsman can also make a paper candlestick with his own hands by rolling a sheet of paper into a cylinder and making perforations on it.

Candlesticks of unusual shapes are perfectly molded from salt dough, ordinary clay or plastic. In the first and second cases, the made element will need to be painted after baking, and in the third, it will only need to be baked according to the rules.

If you don't have time to glue or drill, you can do without it. You just need to take a tall glass vase with a wide neck, pour sand into it, put shells and stick in a few long candles. Alternatively, you can stop on the water. Pour water into a wide glass vase, place flowers or oranges, cut into circles so that they are completely hidden under the water, and place floating candles on top.

As you can see, candlesticks can be made from any materials; you can use whatever comes to mind for decoration. The main thing is that flammable materials do not touch the candle flame for your own safety, but otherwise there are no restrictions.

Pumpkin candle holder

If on the eve of Halloween you have the idea to make a candlestick with your own hands, it’s very simple.

First, you can peel the pumpkin, cut out an image in its skin and place a candle inside. But you can go another way.

You can take a small pumpkin and core it. Coat the outside with glue and sprinkle with glitter. Then, give it time to dry and place a candle in the middle. It will turn out very impressive.

Glass tumbler

You probably have glasses with different patterns hidden somewhere at home that have already served their purpose. Now you can use them to make an elegant and functional candlestick. If you really like the glass itself, then you can simply place a small white candle inside it. A good solution would be several identical glasses with candles inside: you will create a discreet, but at the same time practical decoration for the interior.

If this option seems too simple to you, you can combine glass with other materials. For example, decorate it with flowers on the outside or put various non-flammable objects inside: pebbles, shells or even jewelry.

You can also create a glass matryoshka candlestick by placing one glass in another and filling the space between them with some material. When creating a candlestick from a glass, we recommend dripping a little wax into the middle and then fixing the candle on it: this way it will not fall.

Natural flowers

In order to give an ordinary candle an unusual look, arm yourself with fresh flowers, braid (ribbon, rope, thin lace) and a glue gun.

And simply cover the candle with fresh flowers or leaves, and then decorate it with a beautiful ribbon or bow. It will also look very beautiful and gentle.

Wreaths

The Lutheran theologian Wichern took in children from poor families. To make it easy for children to count down the time until Christmas, Wichern, using an old wheel as a basis, made a wreath, which he decorated with 19 small red and 4 large white candles. Every morning one small red candle was lit in the wreath, and on Sundays a large white one was added to them.

It's easy to make a wreath from pine cones. They cling to each other themselves; to make the composition stronger, use transparent superglue. You will have to walk through a coniferous forest in search of material, but fresh air is good for health, and a wreath of pine cones will fit well into interiors in Scandi and ethnic styles.

You can also make a tabletop wreath with candles with your own hands. For this you will need:

thick paper, thin cardboard or fabric. Rough linen or burlap

glue, rope if desired

grass substitute (green mesh from a flower shop) or spruce branches. Real or artificial

dried flowers, pine cones, spices, nuts, twigs, flowers, dried fruits, beads and bows. We collect everything we want to decorate the wreath with, place it harmoniously on the blank, and glue it on. Don't forget to leave room for candles.
