Upholstery of an Ikea Monstad sofa: execution technology

The technology for replacing furniture upholstery, regardless of the type of product, is done according to certain principles. The following points are mandatory when reupholstering an Ikea Monstad sofa:

  • Dismantling the product before reupholstery.
  • Working with a pattern for a specific sofa model, preparing upholstery material.
  • Placing numbers on each individual part of the sofa frame. At the same time, damaged and unusable elements must be replaced.
  • If necessary, use self-tapping screws and wood glue to connect the parts of the new frame.
  • Parts of the frame made from a sheet of plywood are impregnated with an adhesive composition and compacted using a stapler.
  • The base inner fabric is glued around the sofa frame with a padding polyester layer.
  • The covers are fixed to the inner sofa filling - this is done using a furniture stapler.
  • When the procedure is completed, all components of the sofa are reconnected.

It is impossible to imagine the interior of a country house with a fireplace without a rocking chair. But the modern fast pace of life may make it necessary in an ordinary city apartment. In addition to its direct function, it also relieves stress and allows you to relax after a hard day. At IKEA, the rocking chair is presented in only three series in several colors. But the company, as always, took care of the design: a minimalistic, laconic appearance allows you to adapt the furniture to almost any interior style.

How to choose?

When choosing an Ikea sofa cover, be sure to consider the following factors.

Textile

This is the main point that you should rely on during the purchase. You need to decide what exactly you need the cape for.

Acrylic options are ideal for cottages and country houses. They retain their original appearance longer.

If the cover is purchased with the aim of refreshing and decorating the interior of the living room, take a model made of textiles, cotton and viscose. Wool covers made from natural fabric are suitable for cold winter evenings. .

If you suffer from allergies, purchase a blanket made of synthetics or bamboo. When purchasing models for garden furniture, it is recommended to opt for waterproof fabrics.

Size

The size of the cover is selected in accordance with the dimensions and type of sofa . The Swedish brand's assortment includes options for three- and two-seater sofas, corner furniture, and universal options for book sofas and click-clack sofas.

Of course, first of all, a sofa is selected, and only then you should think about a cover for it.

The color scheme of the brand's covers is mostly restrained, but it will help to significantly improve the appearance of not only upholstered furniture, but the entire room. Choose products so that they match the rest of the textiles in the room.

Pay attention to decorative elements. If you wish, you can play with contrast and choose a radically different shade .

For example, a dark blue cover in a white room.

Review of series with prices

Because the choice is not very large, we can cover in detail all the pros and cons of each option, and also tell you how much each model costs.

POENG

The price for them is quite high - from 11 to 16 thousand rubles, but sometimes IKEA organizes promotions, and you can pick up such a chair at a price 1.5 times less. In general, the high cost is explained by the quality of workmanship and the use of natural materials (beech, birch, oak) in the frames.

Despite the high price, Poeng still remains the most purchased model. Although for some time these were almost the only rocking chairs in the IKEA assortment. This series also includes regular, non-swinging versions. Therefore, for those for whom it is important that the furniture in the living room matches perfectly, this is the best choice.

Models in this series have a smooth curve to support the back, a high back so that the neck does not get tired. A soft head pillow provides additional comfort.

The Poeng series also features footrests that allow you to relax your legs while swinging.

Footrest "Poeng". Price – RUB 3,599

Another advantage of the Poeng models is the presence of a removable cover, which, if dirty, can be removed and washed in a washing machine.

Currently sold in several design options, in several colors.

  • Frame material: multi-layer laminated veneer of beech, birch or oak.

Made from bent laminated birch veneer. Price — 11,999 rub.

Made of oak veneer, stained. Cost - 11,999 rub.

The frames of all models are treated with acrylic varnish. Therefore, squeaking in the first few weeks after purchase is quite normal: the varnished parts should get used to each other.

The frames of some Poeng models are stained light or dark brown.

Pattern for a loose chair cover

Cut a large rectangle of percale - at least 10cm larger on all sides than your measurements require. Leave a larger seam allowance than usual. Immediately fold the edges and baste onto a live thread, but do not stitch.

If you have to sew a panel from several pieces of percale to cover the width of, say, a sofa, then try to ensure that the line of seams runs strictly in the middle or at equal distances, symmetrically to the central axis.

1.

Start from the front back. Place a piece of percale along the grain (that is, along the length) on the back so that it overlaps each seam. Mark the center with a pin and stretch the fabric to avoid wrinkles.

2.

Flatten the fabric and pin it to the top edge of the back. Smooth it along the sides, tucking it along the curve of the armrest. Check that there are no distortions or irregularities.

3.

Carefully trim off any excess, leaving only seam allowances at this stage.

4.

Place the next piece of percale on the arms of the chair so that it covers the seat and goes down the front to the very bottom. Pin the material along the seam on the sides of the armrest. If you have to score the percale to get it to straighten and lie without wrinkles, be careful not to cut through the seam allowance.

5.

Pin the pieces of the piece insert and pin them to the seam allowance of the panels on the armrests and front backrest. Pin the backrest piece to the chair. Place the fabric on the back and corners along the outer side seam of the armrests.

6.

Apply the paper to the front of the armrest to make an imprint and more accurately cut out this percale piece. Don't forget to add a generous seam allowance! Pin the pattern in place. Finally, cut out the percale detail of the seat and its front part.

After completing the fitting and fitting , check whether the resulting cover pattern looks good and whether the seams are straight enough. Check the width of the parts to ensure that the cover is not warped and fits well. If everything is in order, take scissors and carefully trim off the excess fabric, leaving 2.5 cm of seam allowance and - don't skimp! – 15 cm on all sides of the seat panel for tucking.

Sign all the cutting details , for example: “front part of the armrest”, “back back”. Pull out the pins and check again that the paired pattern pieces match each other in size. This is your last chance to make sure everything fits and fits before you start cutting the main material on these parts.

Reviews

Real reviews help you approach your purchase more responsibly. Let's see how satisfied people are with their purchase, and whether they were disappointed with the quality after months or even years of use.

According to popular review sites, customer opinions about the Poeng chair are generally positive.

Of the minuses, the high cost was noted. There was also one review in which the creaking that appeared over time caused criticism.

We also managed to find an opinion about the not so popular, but no less beautiful “Grenadal” chair.

Reviews of the Sundvik child seat are also positive.

Because “Overallt” is a new product; no reviews have been found yet. Perhaps you will be the first to share your experience?

Although IKEA rocking chairs have a 10-year warranty, carefully checking the product for defects before purchasing will help you avoid unnecessary hassle. Furniture should be evenly painted and should not have chips or cracks.

Who we are and why we work

“4 Sofas” produces not only removable covers for IKEA chairs, but also other textile products for the home. They are the ones who create comfort and coziness in the house. We are working to ensure that we have collected beautiful and wear-resistant fabrics with high technical characteristics. The chair cover is sewn by one craftsman from start to finish; it is he who controls and is responsible for the quality of the entire product. We provide a 1 year warranty on new covers. Already now, some cases can be ordered in our online store with the condition of payment upon receipt (for example, Tulsta, Ennilund, Solsta,).

The “4 Divan” store was created in 2014. We saw our main task as providing the opportunity for IKEA furniture owners to receive unusual and beautiful chair covers at a reasonable price. Later, we began to “rescue” IKEA chairs that had left the IKEA store’s assortment, and the covers had become unusable or were no longer sold at IKEA. It came as a big surprise to us that our customers were residents of all of Russia: from Vladivostok to Yalta. We create together with our customers, who constantly give us new ideas: how to fix the cover so that it doesn’t wrinkle, where a particular chair has a “weak spot” and how to fix it. Reviews and photos from our customers give us the strength to develop and create something new. We complement the palette with new fabrics and patterns, and are constantly expanding the range of chair covers, including very “ancient” chair models. So feel free to ask us questions and suggest something new. We are waiting for this. Well, we will try to make your dream a reality.

Blog

“Legs... wings..., the main thing is the tail!” - this is what a lizard said, satisfied with life, in one famous Soviet cartoon. Choosing the right curtains for your interior is very important. But we should not forget about other opportunities that modern textile design opens up for us.

A fashionable trend in Western design is the use of upholstered furniture in textile upholstery with a variety of prints in the interior. Unlike curtains, we are in constant bodily contact with sofas, armchairs and chairs. Therefore, upholstered furniture at home should not only be beautiful, but also pleasant and comfortable for the skin. Therefore, natural fabrics for curtains made of linen and cotton are used for upholstery and covers on sofas. Printed fabrics are used in different ways. Here you should be guided by a sense of proportion and taste, as elsewhere. Most often, in the living room this is an armchair or a pair of armchairs next to the coffee table. In the dining room, chair covers are an excellent solution. In the bedroom, this could be a banquette at the foot of the bed or a lounge chair.

The Ikea chair has a cotton cover with a geometric print. Roman blinds and covers are made by us.

Prints can be very different. However, prints with plant motifs, geometric designs and stylized ethnic patterns are most often used. Which print is right for you depends on the stylistic direction of the interior.

Plant prints today are very diverse and have long gone beyond the classic pattern with pink roses or peonies. Quite often they use stylized floral designs with almost fabulous, oriental motifs.

As for geometry, it is at the peak of popularity. A luxurious interior today implies not so much the presence of gold and lush draperies, but the use of sophisticated technologies and rich natural textures. The geometry is laconic, but extremely expressive. Remember the movie “The Great Gatsby” or look through Vogue with reviews of the latest collections.

We are engaged in both sewing custom curtains and making covers for sofas, armchairs and Ikea chairs. Anticipating frequent questions regarding covers for other furniture, I will say that this is possible. But you need to keep in mind that they require individual production of patterns, which entails an increase in the cost of the project.
