How to properly position a desk for a child. Desk: how to place it correctly in the room

It is almost impossible to find original, non-standard furniture on sale. You have to contact specialized enterprises or artisans to make the desired model on an individual basis. This option is very expensive and therefore not suitable for everyone. The solution may be to create your own furniture from wood.

Many people make a table from firewood with their own hands. A detailed master class will allow even a person who does not have a specialized education to understand the intricacies of the process. Not everyone can create an original structure from firewood. You must have creative thinking. In addition, such furniture is not always able to fit harmoniously into the interior.

To play it safe, you can make a coffee table with your own hands in a standard, but more beautiful design. The size of the product is selected taking into account the installation location and free space. As an addition, you can make a laptop shelf on the wall. It will allow you to rationally manage the available space.

Why should you buy a desk?

A desk for a schoolchild is a very necessary thing. The table should be large enough to comfortably place books, an atlas, laptop or computer on it and so that nothing distracts from your studies.

Also, the height of the table should not be too high or, on the contrary, low. Regardless of age, the table should be comfortable and the chair should be correctly selected for it.

To make sure that a desk is a necessary thing, just look at a photo of a desk on the Internet. It fits well into the overall design of the room. You definitely shouldn’t give up this piece of furniture.

How to assemble

It's quite easy to transport - the tabletop fits in the back seat of a car, legs and small items don't count, you can even move around on public transport. There are hardly any hints needed here - just be careful with the underframes, the black coating is easily scratched by other iron.

To assemble this inexpensive table, you only need a screwdriver. Optionally, a 17 mm wrench (if making high supports) and a knife for removing packaging will be useful.

There are also no secrets regarding the assembly sequence:

  1. Place the tabletop in the packaging face down;
  2. We remove only the top part of the package, leaving the one on which it lies;
  3. We place the legs in the corners;
  4. We measure 26 mm from each side (it may differ slightly, the underframes are not very even);
  5. Holding the iron part tightly, tighten the screws.

What types of desks are there?

The desk can be of different shapes:

  1. Desk with drawers.
  2. Corner desk.
  3. Desk with shelves.
  4. Table transformer.
  5. Computer desk.

In exceptional cases, a computer desk and a desk can be one table. But you shouldn’t do this if your child spends a lot of time studying. Harmful computer study can cause enormous harm to a child's health.

Pros of a universal table

So, again, this table is great. It will suit you if you are looking for:

  • Wear-resistant surface;
  • Modern appearance;
  • Stability and lack of shaking;
  • Speed of purchase, delivery and installation.

And all this for 4,100 rubles, with the opportunity to choose your own accessories.

Loft dining table in the kitchen with two chairs

Of course, you can do it cheaper and cooler - but it will definitely be many times more expensive or longer. Enjoy using it!

Desk with drawers

An ordinary table is not a very comfortable thing, even if it is made very well. In order to have all the necessary things at hand, it is better to buy a desk with drawers.

The boxes should be positioned so as not to get in the way. Typically, drawers are placed under the table on the side or directly above where the chair sits. The drawers can also be arranged as a small cabinet on top.

Cabinets are usually not made too large, the main thing is that they fit stationery, paper and other things.

Drawing work

corner gaming computer deskThe correct drawing is the key to success in assembling a table.
Once you have dealt with all the small points, proceed to assembling the computer desk with your own hands. First you need to determine the height of the structure. The standard figure is 75 cm. Not everyone has the same height. Therefore, it is worth correctly calculating the height using one formula:

“Your height” is multiplied by 75 and divided by 175. Your height is 190 cm. So the calculations will be as follows. 190×75/175=81 cm.

black and white computer with ceiling shelvesChoose a color scheme that fits into your interior.
The above formula allows you to accurately make a drawing. If you want the table to be smooth and not take much time to make it, pay special attention to the drawing work. In order not to invent “bicycles”, borrow a standard plan for making a computer desk structure. For this model, too many manufacturing materials are unnecessary. The design has the following components:

  • Monitor shelf;
  • Keyboard shelf;
  • Shelf of various small things;
  • Cabinet for files and other documentation;
  • Upper shelves for books and speakers.

computer desk with original system designDesigning a shelf for a system unit is not the most boring task.
As you can see, the computer components can easily fit on the table. What tools should I use to assemble a computer desk? For such a task, you cannot do without a jigsaw (preferably an electric one), a drill, a screwdriver, a screwdriver, a grinder and a chisel. And since you will do the work according to the drawing, do not forget about the construction pencil.

Corner desk

A corner desk is a great option for small rooms. In such rooms, furniture is placed so that it does not interfere with movement.

But a corner table for studying is not the best option, even though it looks very beautiful and even too interesting. A children's desk is a serious thing, so choosing a table must be approached very responsibly.

Let's get started

DIY computer desk with printerThe computer desk may also have space for a printer.
For production you will need laminated chipboard sheets. Of course, you can cut them yourself. However, if you do not have experience in this, the sheets may turn out uneven. This means that you will have to redo the work and waste time once again. An alternative solution would be to order such sheets from a furniture factory. They can glue the edge there, which will save time. Next, the necessary parts for assembly will be listed: side racks; central; table top; rear machine panel; sheets for shelves; separate sheet for the keyboard. As soon as these parts have been cut out for you and you have not noticed any errors, feel free to get to work.

You can put papers, documents, and notebooks in the shelves and drawers of your computer desk.

The principle of operation consists of several stages:

  • The side and center walls need holes for lower shelves. Before drilling, mark the bottom to 70mm with a pencil. Then draw a horizontal line. Now that the two holes correspond to two parallel ones, you should start fastening the shelf using confirmations and self-tapping screws.
  • We attach the top shelf in a similar way. True, this time the distance is 100 mm. We measure, mark and make holes. Next we attach the top shelf.
  • The back wall should be in an even position with the end of the side and central walls. We make the marks we need, drill and fasten the wooden wall.
  • Subsequently, the back wall is connected to the side. Before connecting the two parts of the table, drill two holes on the back wooden sheet. Screw the two parts to each other using confirmats.
  • The keyboard tray should slide out and slide in. This means we will need “rails” that will be attached to the main top of the table. So, before this we measure 50 mm from the side wall. Next we leave a mark, and then draw two parallel lines. If the lines are straight, we begin to secure the “rails”.
  • The keyboard shelf will not be able to move easily on the rails unless the guides are attached to it. Having completed this stage of work, we proceed to the next one.
  • To install the tabletop, you will need to drill two holes in the sides of the table. This is necessary in order to place a dowel in each of them. You will need to make four holes in the tabletop that would correspond to the inserted dowels. It is advisable to make the holes in the tabletop deep, but at the same time not through.
  • You can’t just take and immediately insert the tabletop onto bare dowels. The structure will not be stable. Nevertheless, this is achieved with PVA glue. Apply glue to each dowel individually, and then insert the tabletop.

Secure additional shelves on top using dowels.

Why shouldn't you buy a corner desk?

Has a negative impact on the student’s posture. During classes, it interferes with normal lighting. A corner table can have either drawers or shelves.

You can buy a corner desk if both parts are large enough so that one part has enough space for studying, and the other part can accommodate a computer or a shelf.

Despite some disadvantages, a corner table is quite inexpensive compared to other options.

Finding out goals and objectives

photo of a corner computer desk with your own handsYou set the parameters of your computer desk yourself.
Tables are different. Large, small, empty, filled with different shelf compartments. A successful choice will depend on how clear you are about your goals. For example, are you planning to use a laptop, desktop computer with all its components? What will you do at your workplace (write articles, program, do accounting, model, do video editing, etc.). There can be a lot of tasks. And based on your list of needs, you should make a thoughtful choice of computer desk. Let's say the choice falls on a desktop computer. Its components include a system unit, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, modem, printer and various other additional devices. Based on this, calculate the required number of shelves. Another important point is the materials for making a computer desk. The most common inexpensive working material is chipboard. Of course, there are also expensive options.

Desk with shelves

A desk with shelves is a convenient option for studying and working. The shelves should be fairly small, but spacious.

You can put not only books and notebooks on the shelves, but also flowers and other decorative elements. Shelves allow you to avoid cluttering the space on the table and make it easy to get all your things.

The ideal option is a combined option with shelves and drawers. Things that you don’t want to show to everyone can be hidden in drawers, and decorative elements, on the contrary, can be put on display.

Also, such desks with shelves look very good and allow you to create beautiful accents on designs.

Choosing a place

corner computer desk made of light woodThe table can occupy a corner of the room or stand along the wall.
The comfort of the room will depend on the correct location of the table. If the room is small, of course, it would be unreasonable to place a large table here. If the room can accommodate large furniture, a small computer desk may not seem like the most functional furniture option. It is worth focusing on the following aspects before placing furniture in the room:

  • A computer desk serves as a carrier for computer equipment, which naturally requires power supply. This means that it is important to place the table next to an outlet.
  • It is advisable to work at the table during the consecration. There is no better light for work than daylight. Therefore, it is worth organizing the location of the table in such a way that the light from the windows falls on the left side of the computer area.
  • Computer equipment on the table already obliges you to get rid of unnecessary heating objects in advance, which can cause a short circuit or fire. It is extremely unwise to place a table near a radiator, fireplace, or electric heater.
  • It is recommended to free the occupied space from other various objects (paintings, shelves and decorative elements).

folding computer deskYou can choose a hanging table model, which, if necessary, can be raised and free up space.
Tables are divided into several types: straight, corner and combined. Let's look at each option in order.

Each type of table is made differently. Some projects involve large expenses, while others save money. The type of table you choose will determine your costs, assembly time, and available space.

Having figured out the place, you need to think about the size of the table and chair

It is not uncommon to see that when doing homework, a child sits at a desk designed for an adult and in an adult chair. In this case, the table top is at the level of the chin, the shoulders are above the ears, and kyphosis forms in the lumbar region.

Try to avoid this situation and choose a table for your child so that it is “the right size” for him. Today, the problem can be easily solved by purchasing a table with legs whose height is adjustable, and a similar chair. If for some reason this is not possible, remember the basic rules regarding the size of the table and chair.

“To determine if a chair is the right size, sit your child so that his or her feet are flat on the floor. If the angle between the thigh and lower leg is straight, you can rest assured that the chair has been chosen correctly.

If the angle is sharp, consider a larger chair, and if the angle is obtuse, consider a smaller chair. It is important that the end of the chair lid does not rest against the popliteal cap.

Let's go to the table. To determine whether a table is suitable for your child, sit your child on a chair next to it. If the elbow of your hand lowered to the floor is 5-6 centimeters below the table top, you have made the right choice.

It is also useful to know the simple rules for determining the height of a chair and table, keeping in mind the following ratio:

(Student height - Table height - Chair height)

Up to 130 cm - 520 mm - 300 mm.

From 130 to 145 mm - 580 mm - 340 cm.

From 145 to 165 mm - 640 mm - 480 cm.

From 160 to 175 mm - 700 mm - 420 cm.

Over 175 cm - 760 mm - 460 mm.

If you are buying a desk and chair for growth, be sure to buy a footrest so that your child's feet are on a solid surface and not dangling. The dimensions of the tabletop are also important, because there should be enough space on it for everything a student needs: textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils and much more.

“The optimal size of the table top is at least 60 by 60 centimeters, otherwise, when doing homework, the child will constantly have to look for a place for his supplies.

Materials and tools

Materials needed to make the table:

  • wooden legs made of laminated veneer lumber;
  • Solid wood for slats and side strips;
  • medium-grit sanding paper;
  • Lining fabric, green billiard fabric;
  • Pocket nets;
  • waterproof impregnation, varnish, epoxy resin putty;
  • Rubber for fixing the edge of the table with a triangular cross-section;
  • chipboard sheet for the production of tabletops (best of all is a stable tabletop, without seams). Thicknesses from 16 mm to 25 mm;
  • ready-made bags or metal clips for their production (you can use 4 corners of the same size);
  • Self-tapping screws (about 200), furniture screws (about 40), confirmations (15-20);
  • Wood glue (or PVA), rubber glue (you can take “Moment 88”).

Tools:

  • Tape measure, pencil, marker, spirit level;
  • Drilling and drilling (including Fostner drill);
  • saw, grinder, electric puzzle;
  • Screwdriver or screwdriver, wrench;
  • Pliers, hammer;
  • milling machine;
  • Brush, spatula;
  • Furniture stapler and staples.

Think about the little things that make a student’s life easier

Having solved the most important problems, be sure to think about the little things. Don’t forget to buy a special stand for the textbook, this will make it much more convenient for your child to study.

Think about the color of your desk, chair, and other work furniture. Of course, it is important that the color scheme matches the interior, but the child’s personal preferences are no less important, because he will spend a lot of time at the table.

When designing your child’s first workplace, be guided not only by your own preferences and considerations. Consult with your child, ask for his opinion, ask your child to describe or even draw his dream workplace, and then go shopping together. And then learning will bring only joy to the child.

By the beginning of the school year, parents of a future student should think not only about school uniforms, but also about how to organize a workplace for their first-grader. In our previous articles, we already talked about the need to create several zones in the room of any student - a sleep zone, a study zone and a games or entertainment zone. Today we will talk about how to arrange a study area for a first-grade student so that he feels comfortable doing his homework here and, most importantly, so that these classes do not harm his health. We have collected the most frequently asked questions from parents of first-graders, the answers to which will help in organizing the student’s workplace.

1. What kind of table does a first grader need?

For a first-grader, you need to be especially careful when choosing a desk, because the child’s posture, his vision and, no less important, his desire to learn will depend on the size and model. There are several strict rules regarding the size of the desk:

height

depends on the child’s height: 45-48 centimeters is enough for a first grader. When going to the store for a table, take your child with you, this is the only way you will choose a table that suits him perfectly. A desk is considered optimal if its edge is exactly at the chest level of a sitting child (then he can rest on his elbows), his knees do not support the tabletop from below, and his legs are at right angles.

depth

the working surface should be at least 60-80 centimeters, width - 120-160 centimeters.

In order not to change the student’s desk every two to three years, it is better to give preference to a transformable model. By the way, experts advise purchasing a separate table for the computer, which will also eventually appear in the nursery - doing homework in front of the monitor will be inconvenient, so you need a separate surface for writing. If the room is small and there is not enough space for two tables, it is better to purchase a slightly larger table, for example a corner one, in one part of which the computer will be located, and in the other there will be free space for studying.

2. Where to place a desk in the nursery?

It is best to place the desk to the left of the window, sideways, or to the right, but facing the window. The first option is convenient because the child is less distracted by street events, and the second allows for good illumination of the work surface during the daytime. Designers often suggest turning the entire window sill into a desk. This is a really great option for a small room.

3. Which chair should I choose for a first grader?

It is important to choose a suitable chair, because the child’s posture depends on it. The chair should not be too high: the child’s legs, bent at right angles, should touch the floor, while his back should touch the back of the chair. It would be better if it is a comfortable work chair with adjustable seat height and backrest position, then you can adjust the height and position of the chair as the child grows. The seat should not be deep so that during classes the student does not hunch over and lean on the back. It is better to abandon the swivel chair and choose a stationary model for this age.

4. Are there any requirements for furniture for a schoolchild?

There are a number of requirements for the material from which children's furniture is made. It is advisable that furniture for schoolchildren be made from natural materials: it is better to buy a wooden table. It is also better to choose natural material for chair upholstery. When purchasing furniture for a schoolchild, be sure to pay attention to the product certificate: it must comply with GOST developed for children's furniture. Plastic furniture, as well as furniture made from impregnated wood-adhesive materials, are unsafe due to possible fumes of harmful substances.

5. How to create the perfect lighting for studying?

To prevent your child’s vision from being damaged during activities, it is best to combine light sources above the desk. The optimal combination is wall sconces or a light cornice with reflected light and a separate lamp directly above the work area. The classic picture - a child sitting with only a table lamp in a dark room - is an absolutely wrong approach, because the light of a table lamp alone is strictly contraindicated for children. If the rest of the room is darkened, the contrast will quickly tire the eyes of a first-grader, who are not adapted to such loads, and contribute to the deterioration of vision.

6. How to help a first-grader organize order at the table?

If the desk does not have roll-out drawers, then all items necessary for the educational process should be placed within the child’s reach - no further than at arm’s length. For these purposes, bedside tables, shelves and racks, as well as mobile plastic containers located under the table can be used. If the table is located near a wall without a window, then on it you can place a fabric organizer with a large number of pockets, which will perfectly fit stationery and other little things that the child needs during the educational process. You can also use cork boards to which notes and all sorts of little things will be attached.

Teach your child to maintain order in the workplace from the first grade. After class, ask him to tidy up all the supplies so that each item is in its place, and the working surface of the table always remains free.

7. Is it possible to help a child remember the daily routine?

A lot changes in the life of a first-grader; the daily routine plays a major role. Buy a pack of office paper, bright markers or felt-tip pens and together with your child come up with his first schedule. You can use these ready-made pictures or make them yourself - and hang this board near your child’s desk. For the first month, such a daily routine will help your child get used to new living conditions, and you will avoid nervous explanations and children's tears.

Every time I suggest that clients place a child's study table facing a wall or window

or with your back to the door, I immediately expect a question from those who have read books: “But
you can’t have
!”:) Do you think that I don’t know what is written in books or taught in elementary courses?

Yes, you can't. But sometimes it’s possible :).

Since this question gets answered so often all the time, it's easier to write an article for everyone to clarify this. And even more so in the light of exams, admission to institutes or schools.

Let's look at the issue from all sides.

What guides us when we decide where to put the table?

The fact is that when we decide how to place a table, we are guided not only

condition “face/back to the door”, but also many factors.
A multi-stage analysis
is triggered inside our head , which is expressed in the fact that we point a finger and say: “Put the table here.” But there's a lot of work going on inside.

Here are just some of the general factors we consider:

1. Favorable location

2. Favorable direction

regarding the entire premises, room, person’s personality, based on formulas and calculations.

3. Following
planning
qi .

4. Following the flow of qi

(energy) in a room, apartment relative to
the surrounding landscape
.

In apartments, it is often impossible to follow all the points at the same time. You have to choose what is more important in given specific conditions.

Moreover, in each of this paragraph there are at least 2 more subparagraphs
.
For example, should I choose all this regarding San He or San Yuan? After all, they often do not intersect...

Of course, we are always guided by the rule “ form is more important than formula.”

".
However, in real life, everything is not so simple
...

A desk for a boss or a student? There is a difference.

The fact is that there is a difference between the conditions for placing desks in the office

for example,

— director, sales manager, chief accountant or lawyer

- and a student (no matter what age) at home

.

And also between reasons

desire to have a desktop at home. For example, let's look at the situations:

- you work at home

, receive clients (for example, do a manicure), receive close clients in an informal setting;

- you're just browsing the Internet

to check traffic jams, play with toys, reply to friends’ emails;

- you are a child/adult and you learn while sitting at the table

;

- you are a child/adult, and you have a table, but there is no way to seat you at the table, you will still do your homework/work lying/sitting on the floor

, laying out textbooks on the sofa or bed (believe me, there are a lot of them);

- you need a table just to have a table

. What if you need...

- you need a table for prestige

. The boss is at work, so he should be at home in his office, even if he doesn’t need to work at home...

Well, or other situations. Believe me, it is very important to know why you need a table

. His position also depends on this.

Sometimes you just need a table to have one, and you ask for a good place for it. Most often we only have one good place

in the room.
And in this case we give preference to the bed
. This is more important.

But if you work from home

, then, of course, we will do everything possible to “dig out”
at least something good
in the current situation.

Boss.

For example, if you are looking for a place for a table in an office or in a house/apartment for receiving people, for work or to emphasize your status,

then, of course, it is necessary that the table be placed
facing those entering
. Otherwise, it would be strange, imagine, one day you go to the general director of a company, and he sits with his back to you...

Or you go into a company, and the reception desk has its back turned to you... It’s strange, you’ll agree. It’s like answering: “Get out of here, everyone’s got me.”

That’s why there is the term
“boss’s position.”
No matter how good the Stars are, for such a situation the “boss’s position” will always be in
1st place
in
the list of formulas
that we use to select a place.

PS “ Boss’s Position”

- this is the position of the table, sitting at which we “control” the entrance and see those entering. The best part is the part farthest away from the entrance.

Student.

What is important for the student? Study well. He does not need to receive guests or clients. Therefore, in this case, I give preference (for apartments) to the Stars and sometimes, if possible, I combine this with san he (bazhai, 72 dragons, yin-yang regarding the environment, Academician’s Star). But this will not necessarily be associated with a “boss position.” This is not so important here.

Apartment or private house? There is a difference.

It makes a difference where we do feng shui.

  • In an apartment (or house, office), where we cannot
    , suppose (but sometimes it is possible), change the entrance doors, move the walls, doors.
  • Or in a private house
    /building, which was initially
    built taking into account the recommendations of Feng Shui
    .

The fact is that in apartments

(and especially small ones), we essentially have no choice. Most often, we choose not from what is good and even better, but from what is “acceptable” under given conditions. This is something that is better than the other positions, but not the best that is possible in this house.

And since most often what is more important to us is what is happening here and now

(it’s important that debts be paid off now, that a new project progresses now, that you study well or pass exams now), then I always make a choice towards the San Yuan system, in which
time is most important.
Whereas in San He there are no such time characteristics (or rather, they are there too, but not in periods, but in some years). But that’s another story, a topic of personal preference, we won’t go into it :).

However, when we design a house and choose a plot

, then we take into account, if possible, both san yuan and san he. And then you can plan in advance so that the position is of the “boss”, and so that the “here and now” helps, and so that the movement of energies is in accordance with the landscape. No problem.

In apartments, we do something from what is given to us. A series:

“I made him out of what I had. And then, whatever happened, I fell in love.”

In the house - we do what we need.

It's like being a boss or a subordinate. In the apartment we are subordinates. There are bosses in the house.

Do you feel the difference?

Thus, it is possible to place the table facing the wall, opposite the door or with its back to the door when we cannot see the entrance.

But only when this is due to the reasons for our analysis of the situation.

If you do not study Feng Shui professionally, but still want to somehow help your family without inviting a consultant, of course, take these rules into account and follow the visible flow of qi.

But when you start studying Feng Shui, you will see that you can follow completely when you yourself create the following you need (sorry for the tautology) in order to combine both forms and formulas (everything is important).

Materials and tools

The sewing table can be made of various materials:

  • ODS
  • Chipboard;
  • MDF ovens;
  • Special furniture panels.

If you are using non-laminated chipboard, then after production the tabletop must be varnished and varnished.

It is better to buy ready-made furniture boards that have a finished and smooth surface in various wood tones.

You also need tools:

  • meter ruler and pencil;
  • Screws and self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • special furniture hinges;
  • electric puzzle;
  • Door handles, wheelchair legs;
  • electric drill;
  • Construction level.

Important: Before starting work, you need to draw up a clear plan of action, and most importantly, carefully calculate the dimensions of the future table and create drawings. This is the only way to create a table with the correct dimensions.
