Schoolchild's workplace: choosing a chair and table

Even though today we no longer write letters or spend hours working on papers, the desk will never cease to be relevant.

A desk is more than just a piece of furniture. This is the place where children do their homework and adults work with important documents. The main requirement for a desk is that it should be comfortable enough for work.

Why should you buy a desk?

A desk for a schoolchild is a very necessary thing. The table should be large enough to comfortably place books, an atlas, laptop or computer on it and so that nothing distracts from your studies.

Also, the height of the table should not be too high or, on the contrary, low. Regardless of age, the table should be comfortable and the chair should be correctly selected for it.

To make sure that a desk is a necessary thing, just look at a photo of a desk on the Internet. It fits well into the overall design of the room. You definitely shouldn’t give up this piece of furniture.

Materials

If you are not strapped for money, then buy furniture made from quality materials. But even if your budget is limited, don't buy cheap furniture. This cheapness is deceptive. In cheap models, the material can be toxic. And such furniture will not last long, even if you treat it with care.

The materials from which furniture is made are increasing in price and safety.

  • Chipboard chipboard or pressed shavings.
  • MDF medium density fiberboard.
  • Tree.

The best option may be to purchase an adjustable desk for children of primary and secondary school age, and then buy a high-quality and comfortable computer desk.

If you haven't found a desk model you like, consider having a custom desk made. The masters will be able to make any of your fantasies come true.

Now you know how to choose and buy a desk for a schoolchild. September 1 is very soon. Give your children a pleasant and useful gift, and they will thank you with good performance in school.

What types of desks are there?

The desk can be of different shapes:

  1. Desk with drawers.
  2. Corner desk.
  3. Desk with shelves.
  4. Table transformer.
  5. Computer desk.

In exceptional cases, a computer desk and a desk can be one table. But you shouldn’t do this if your child spends a lot of time studying. Harmful computer study can cause enormous harm to a child's health.

Selection principles

A children's desk for home should be selected taking into account the following parameters and recommendations:

  1. Dimensions . This is one of the most important parameters. Dimensions are important for its placement in the room, and height is important for the correct positioning of the child. The dimensions should provide a comfortable posture when doing homework or sitting at the computer for a long time.
  2. Child's age . It is understood that a table for a first-grader is fundamentally different from the same piece of furniture for a high school student. Additional functions of furniture that change with the age needs of children should be taken into account.
  3. Gender of the child . Tables for boys and girls differ in both design and size. It is generally accepted that the tabletop area for a boy should be larger than for girls, which is due to the difference in children's hobbies.
  4. Material . Children's tables can be made of wood, chipboard, MDF, plastic. Of course, furniture made from natural wood looks the most attractive and practical, but they have an increased cost. Any material will be fine if it does not emit harmful substances even when heated.
  5. Construction and form . Taking these parameters into account is determined by the design features of the children's room and its dimensions, as well as the installation location. First of all, you should pay attention to the strength and reliability of the structure. Priority should be given to the option with adjustable legs, which allows you to change the height of the tabletop.
  6. Functionality . When choosing a table, you need to pay attention to the presence of cells for storing various accessories, as well as the possibility of using it as a computer desk. Of interest are compartments with shelves, drawers, lockable cabinets, niches for computer elements (monitor, system unit, keyboard), etc.
  7. Color . The color design should be combined with the overall interior of the room and match the child’s tastes. The following colors are currently considered the most popular: bleached oak (beige with a grayish or pinkish tint), Sonoma oak, Italian walnut, walnut with a golden hue, beech.

Desk with drawers

An ordinary table is not a very comfortable thing, even if it is made very well. In order to have all the necessary things at hand, it is better to buy a desk with drawers.

The boxes should be positioned so as not to get in the way. Typically, drawers are placed under the table on the side or directly above where the chair sits. The drawers can also be arranged as a small cabinet on top.

Cabinets are usually not made too large, the main thing is that they fit stationery, paper and other things.

Models and design of a table for a schoolchild

Modern stores offer a wide selection of desks for schoolchildren. They differ not only in height and size, but also in their shape, material, filling, and technical capabilities.

Filling

To prevent a student from being distracted while doing homework by looking for a particular textbook, notebook or pencil, he needs to be provided with the opportunity to have everything at hand. Tables with various drawers, shelves, sections, stands or retractable modules do an excellent job of this task. By choosing just such a table, the student will be able to collect all his school supplies in one place, so that they will not get lost. In addition, it teaches order and accuracy.

Form

One of the popular types of tables is the transformable desk. This is a table for a schoolchild, the main advantage of which is the ability to adapt to the child’s growth, that is, to grow with him. Such a desk for a schoolchild can last all school years without losing its relevance and maintaining a healthy position for the child while working at the desk.

Another option is a classic rectangular desk with several drawers. If you plan to install a computer at the student’s workplace, you can purchase a special computer desk with a retractable keyboard stand. It is necessary to correctly assess whether there will be enough space in front of the monitor for notebooks and textbooks. Typically, such a table has special drawers and shelves for disks, and a stand for the printer.

If there is enough space in the room, you can buy the student an L-shaped table, which solves several problems at once - it saves both a large workspace and space for a computer. By dividing the zone into two, there is no need to be afraid that the student is exposed to computer radiation or combines homework with playing a computer game.

To protect your child from unnecessary accidental injuries, it is better to choose a school table with a streamlined shape without corners.

Material

The school table will have to “endure” a lot - felt-tip pens, compasses, spilled water and glue. The table should serve the child for more than one year, be durable and reliable, and therefore you should check the material from which it is made. Most often, tables are made of chipboard, MDF or wood. The main thing is that the material is of high quality. Cheap raw materials can be toxic and harmful and even cause serious allergies.

You should pay attention to the surface of the tabletop. It shouldn't slide. If the table is polished, you should remember that such a table cannot be placed near a window because of the reflected glare, which is harmful to vision.

What else is important when choosing a table for a schoolchild?

A table for a schoolchild must be durable - it will have to withstand a lot of heavy loads, possibly from a child’s careless attitude. If the table is too bulky and heavy, there may be a problem with moving it to another place, and even more so to another apartment. An important quality of a table is stability. It is better to check it immediately in the store - the table should not wobble.

A desk for a schoolchild should become a reliable friend and assistant in his studies. When you go shopping for a desk, take your student with you. It’s better to “try on” the table with your child and give him the opportunity to evaluate the external characteristics and convenience. The more the child likes the new furniture, the more pleasant it will be for him to sit down and study with it.

Corner desk

A corner desk is a great option for small rooms. In such rooms, furniture is placed so that it does not interfere with movement.

But a corner table for studying is not the best option, even though it looks very beautiful and even too interesting. A children's desk is a serious thing, so choosing a table must be approached very responsibly.

Table parameters for a schoolchild

When choosing a table for a schoolchild, you need to make sure that it is suitable for the child in height, size, and also fits freely in the room. It is best to position the desk for a schoolchild so that there is a window in front of the child’s face.

Tabletop

To prevent the student from getting confused in numerous notebooks and textbooks, the working area of the desk should be spacious. In addition to educational materials, you need to place a lamp, a book stand, and possibly a computer on the table. The tabletop is considered to be of suitable size if the child can rest his elbows freely on it. As a rule, a tabletop size of 120x60 cm suits every schoolgirl, but a table less than 60x60 cm will be too small.

The ideal option is if the table top has an adjustable slope - this will help preserve vision by minimizing eye strain, and will also shift the load from the spine to the table itself. The angle of inclination should vary depending on the work being performed. So, for writing it is 10°, and for reading it is already 20°.

Student table height

It is impossible to choose the right desk for a schoolchild without taking into account the child’s height. A healthy back, beautiful posture and clear vision directly depend on whether the table is suitable for the child’s height. When sitting at the table, the edge of the tabletop should be at the same level as the student’s solar plexus, and if you place the child next to him, at the same level as his hands. You can be guided by specific rules: for schoolchildren up to 130 cm, a table with a height of 52 cm is ideal; from 130 to 145 cm - table 58 cm; from 146 to 165 cm – 64 cm; up to 175 cm – 70 cm; for children taller than this height – 76 cm.

Efforts to select a table for a student will be useless if the right chair is not chosen. The height of the table and the height of the child determine which chair is needed. The child should place his feet completely on the floor, bending his knees so that a right angle is formed.

If everything is chosen correctly, then a right angle is also created between the student’s torso and hips and between the thighs and lower legs.

Why shouldn't you buy a corner desk?

Has a negative impact on the student’s posture. During classes, it interferes with normal lighting. A corner table can have either drawers or shelves.

You can buy a corner desk if both parts are large enough so that one part has enough space for studying, and the other part can accommodate a computer or a shelf.

Despite some disadvantages, a corner table is quite inexpensive compared to other options.

Original designs

The small size of a children's room sometimes dictates requirements for maximum space saving. In such cases, original designs of children's tables will help:

  1. Transformer . This design provides a wide range of adjustment of the overall height of the table. In some systems, it is possible to tilt the tabletop, as well as move the cabinets (inward or sideways). For example, moving the cabinets to the sides allows you to increase legroom.
  2. Retractable or folding system . For very small rooms, a folding or extendable tabletop helps create a workspace only for the duration of classes. One option is to increase the area of the tabletop by extending the work area. In this case, the width can be only 40-50 cm, but when the platform is extended, the normal width of the tabletop is ensured.
  3. "Attic" . Another way to create a workplace in a small room is a two-tier system. A full-fledged work desk is installed on the first floor, and a bed is installed on the second tier.
  4. Table for 2 children . If the room does not allow you to install 2 separate tables, then you will have to think about how to place both students at the same time at one. There may be several options: an elongated table with a single tabletop, installed along the wall; a wide table installed perpendicular to the wall, with children placed opposite each other; T-shaped design, when the branch is used together; corner design, when children are located back to back.

Desk with shelves

A desk with shelves is a convenient option for studying and working. The shelves should be fairly small, but spacious.

You can put not only books and notebooks on the shelves, but also flowers and other decorative elements. Shelves allow you to avoid cluttering the space on the table and make it easy to get all your things.

The ideal option is a combined option with shelves and drawers. Things that you don’t want to show to everyone can be hidden in drawers, and decorative elements, on the contrary, can be put on display.

Also, such desks with shelves look very good and allow you to create beautiful accents on designs.

Tip 5: Table color

It would seem that the color of the table does not play a special role, but this is not so.

What color should not be:

  • The red color of the table can irritate the child and prevent him from concentrating;
  • A green or blue table will distract the child from work and homework;
  • The bright color of the table can also strain the child's eyesight, which is not good. Particularly harmful for a child with poor vision;
  • The color of the desk should be monochromatic, not have various provocative and flashy designs or inserts;
  • It is preferable to choose a table in brown, beige or any pastel shades that are not distracting and pleasantly pleasing to the eye.

Seating traditions

Are you planning to follow all the traditions? Then the bride should be seated to the right of the groom, the witnesses - next to the couple, to the right of the bride - her mother and father of the groom, to the left of the groom - his mother and father of the bride. Next, the groom's relatives sit on the right, and the bride's relatives sit on the left. Grandparents and most honored guests should sit closer to the newlyweds, that is, immediately after the parents.

And lastly: when creating a seating chart, take into account the characters of the guests and their attitude towards each other. If European seating is expected, try to seat at least one sociable, funny person at each table who will not let other guests get bored. And if among the guests there are people who do not like each other, they should be seated at different ends of the hall.

Currently, many people prefer to work at home, which necessitates adding a compact and ergonomic mini-office equipped with a personal computer to their living space.

In this case, apartment owners rarely have the desire to equip a workplace in the bedroom, and preference is given to the living room, dining room or even kitchen.

But the best place to create a home office is in a quiet break room, where, unlike other rooms, there are no distractions.

Placing a workspace in the bedroom is the optimal solution for those who do not have additional space for an office at their disposal. Here are 25 wonderful examples of home office furnishing projects implemented in a cozy and tranquil setting of a private area.

What to look for when choosing

To properly organize your workplace, you need to take care of lighting. A table lamp with the ability to adjust the direction of the light flux is suitable for these purposes. Lamps mounted on the upper shelves will not be superfluous.

An important point is also the dimensions of the product.

There are general recommendations for computer desks.

  • Height 75 cm. If your parameters are far from average values, then you should use the formula. Height (in centimeters) multiplied by 75 and divided by 175. You don’t want to fool yourself with an individual order; an adjustable chair and a footrest will help. But the ideal option is a product with the function of changing the distance from the tabletop to the floor.
  • Depth 60-80 cm. Although in the absence of superstructures, 45 cm may be enough.
  • Width from 1 to 1.5 m.

Before purchasing, you should decide on the table’s functions and installation location in order to have a clear idea of the optimal dimensions. However, in some cases there is no other choice but to order a suitable design from a furniture workshop.

A bedroom with a work area is an acceptable option for those who work at home and do not have the opportunity to set up an office in another part of the apartment.

Elegance and modernity

As mentioned above, one of the reasons why many people place a work area in the bedroom is the lack of free space for office equipment. But very often this room does not have enough space for a full-fledged mini-office.

You can solve this problem by replacing the traditional bedside table with a desk or computer desk. This is quite easy to do without sacrificing the unique appearance of the sleep area and without changing its design project. In this case, a table lamp at one end of the table will illuminate the laptop and the head end of the bed.

Another way to overcome this problem is to create a simple desktop design that is firmly attached to the wall and will serve as a convenient console for a long time, even after the decision is made to move the home office to another location.

Additionally, you will need a comfortable chair and shelves.
