Table decoration for New Year 2020, taking into account the aesthetic preferences of the Pig

Even though the New Year is a winter holiday, we associate it with a scarlet color scheme, because the main guest, Santa Claus, prefers this bright color.

Well, if you also take into account that the coming year 2020 will pass under the symbol of the Fire Rooster, then decorating the New Year’s table in red is undoubtedly the most optimal. Therefore, look now for the most beautiful tablecloths, napkins, dishes and cutlery with various holiday attributes in the appropriate color tone.

But too much red is not always good, or, as they say, good, but in moderation, and in order not to overload the interior and table setting with all shades of red, you should add neutral notes to the design. Usually a light color acts as a color neutralizer, so setting the New Year's table in red and white is the best solution.

Color solution

When decorating a room in the year of the Yellow Earth Pig, you should choose colors that are inherent to the earth sign. Any shades of the following colors are suitable here:

  • yellow;
  • blue;
  • beige;
  • silver;
  • mustard;
  • gold;
  • brown;
  • terracotta;
  • gray;
  • orange;
  • green.

You can also use classic white to decorate the room. By the way, dishes made of silver or gold will look more impressive on a snow-white tablecloth. Those wishing to decorate the main room in a rustic style should pay attention to ceramic or earthenware. When using such sets, it is better to lay a canvas tablecloth in gray tones on the table.

Themed table setting

It is worth noting that not only the New Year's table should be decorated. Decoration is also required for plates, cutlery and glasses. It also doesn’t take much effort to decorate them beautifully.

how to decorate a New Year's table decor

For example, take a red napkin or a color that matches your decor, a wide green ribbon, artificial leaves, natural small cones and rowan berries. To hold the parts together, you will need a glue gun. Carefully fold the napkin into an accordion, and place one set of cutlery (spoon, fork and knife) on top of it. Take the tape and cut a piece that can fit around the napkin with the cutlery. Secure the ends of the tape with a glue gun, and glue a couple of leaves, pine cones and berries to the seam. Place the resulting ring on a napkin. This way you can very easily and quickly create a New Year's table setting with your own hands.

Napkins and tablecloth

When choosing these New Year's attributes, it is important to consider that the Yellow Pig prefers natural materials. Therefore, it is better to choose cotton, cotton or chintz tablecloths and napkins. The material should have a calm pattern, or you can choose plain samples without any images. Regarding the color scheme, you should focus on the color of the dishes that will serve the festive table. Regarding the size of the tablecloth, preference should be given to samples that will hang from the edges no lower than 30 cm.

When choosing napkins, it is not necessary to purchase models in the same color scheme as the tablecloth. They can also be made in bright colors. The main thing is that they are monochromatic. Only small embroidery is allowed. Wicker napkins are also suitable for table setting.

Christmas trees (https://domnaraduge.com/azhurnaya-elochka/)

It’s nice to do New Year’s decor in advance, slowly, day after day, doing something with your own hands and adding small pieces of a big holiday to the house... I already have openwork New Year trees ready! The space of the second light is an excellent place for creative experiments: the elephants have flown away, now Christmas trees, snowflakes and angels are circling here :)

Openwork paper napkins that are placed under pastries and cakes have long attracted my attention. I stole them from cafes and restaurants, stacked them like a hamster “in reserve”... And then I found this treasure in one of the supermarkets - in different sizes and different patterns 8)

It turned out that such round napkins are convenient to use for table setting - they look very cute. Last year I came up with the idea of making Christmas angels out of them. And this time, when I was turning over the napkins left by the guests in my hands, I came up with New Year trees:

DIY Christmas trees (from openwork napkins)

The idea is simple - we fold napkins of different diameters like an accordion and then either simply place them in a pyramid, or connect them with thread and hang them. There are nuances - folding a round napkin like an accordion is not the same as folding a regular sheet of paper like an accordion. After experimenting, I found two ways. I’ll share something simpler, in my opinion.

1. Fold the napkin in half. Unbend. We make another fold perpendicular to the first. Unbend. And then two more folds at 450 (it’s convenient to “shoot”, combining the previous folds).

2. All our folds turned out in one direction. Now we need folds in the opposite direction to get that same accordion. To do this, use your fingers to make a fold inward, even out the edges and iron it. Then the next fold, etc.

For such Christmas trees, it would be nice to have napkins of three or four diameters. You can reduce the diameter by partially cutting off the openwork edge. If you connect the parts of the tree with a thread, it is better to secure them through a small gap (simply tying a knot), and hang a ball at the bottom.

DIY New Year's openwork trees

I combined the Christmas trees into garlands with snowflakes and angels (I will write about them later).:) This New Year’s composition looks funny against the background of our wall with “Africa.” But against the background of the blue ceiling with clouds, it’s perfect. Especially when the fireplace is burning and the rising warm air swirls Christmas trees, angels and snowflakes overhead...

Vases with filling

The festive table will certainly be decorated with glass vessels with New Year's contents. You can create vases with the following filling:

  • Christmas decorations.
  • It is better to use plastic jewelry. When selecting toys, you should give preference to the color that will dominate the holiday table.

  • Fairy lights.
  • You need to purchase a battery-powered flashing strip with the same color bulbs. For example, white or blue glow.

  • Beads.
  • Jewelry in silver and gold, placed in a tall crystal glass, will certainly decorate the festive table.

  • Plants.
  • You can use both fresh and artificial flowers. For example, an excellent option for decorating a holiday table is poinsettia, which is a symbol of the New Year holidays.

  • Fruits.
  • Not a single New Year's table is complete without tangerines. These fruits can not only provide taste pleasure, but also please the eye. To do this, just place them in a large wide glass.

Fancy dining rooms in a modern style

The traditional colors of the New Year holidays are bright red and green, and the main elements are New Year's balls, garlands and a fluffy Christmas tree.

But if you want to diversify the New Year’s interior of your home, make it unusual and original, and at the same time move away from standard holiday color combinations, then use Christmas tree decorations, garlands and other decorations to match the main color scheme of your dining room, since it is not at all necessary to use traditional colors to prepare your home for the long-awaited holiday.

It would also be a great idea to replace the traditional Christmas tree with a fluffy “Christmas tree” garland, which can be decorated with New Year’s balls, as the designers of Regina Gust Designs did in the photo below. The stylish, elegant dining room in the Scandinavian style turned out to be very bright and unusual, and the fluffy garlands on the windows are an excellent decoration for the room and a complete alternative to an artificial Christmas tree.

The designers of LUX Design decorated the dining room for the New Year in the main colors of the room's interior - neutral silver and light gray, however, the room turned out to be festive and original. Silver, gold and dark blue Christmas tree decorations in calm, neutral tones and shades are perfect for decorating a fluffy artificial Christmas tree against the wall of the room.

The small modern dining room in the following photo from the designers of 30smagazine is decorated with New Year's accessories and interior items in a traditional Scandinavian style. An alternative to the traditional fluffy spruce is a cardboard Christmas tree on a stand, made in a minimalist style.

To decorate the room, the designers selected New Year's accessories and elements to match the main, basic colors of the dining room - light and dark gray, as well as white, so the interior of the room decorated for the New Year looks very harmonious and balanced. Light, neutral tones and shades also help to visually make a small room wider and more spacious, but this is something we have already mentioned more than once in our articles.

Brilliant cascading chandeliers and unusual pendant lamps can be an excellent decoration and addition to the dining room for the New Year; in order to make the lamps even more festive and unusual, you can additionally hang glass Christmas tree balls, branches of fir trees, cedar and shiny garlands on them.

Thus, the designers of Mindi Freng Designs used a dazzling and exquisite chandelier placed directly above the festive dining table to decorate the dining room of a private home. The designers complemented the unusual chandelier with a white garland, transparent glass balls and other unusual Christmas tree decorations. An elegant, stylish chandelier is made in the main colors of the spacious dining room - snow-white and silver.

The decorating of the dining room in the next photo was done by the designers of The Goodhouse Company. A small open-plan room flows smoothly into the living and kitchen area of the first floor of a town house, so it was very important for the designers to follow the basic tones and color combinations to achieve the right balance and harmony in the interior. The dining room, kitchen and living room are done in white and light gray neutral tones, with natural brown wood dominating the interior.

To decorate the rooms for the New Year, the designers used traditional New Year's elements - a fluffy fir tree, multi-colored balls, garlands; it is also a great idea to complement the pendant lamp with a fluffy “Christmas tree” garland with shiny, silver and white balls.

The interior of a small, bright dining room in an eclectic style is dominated by light blue, rich yellow and neutral white colors, which combine perfectly with each other. Lowe's Home Improvement designers used traditional Christmas balls and garlands, as well as a fluffy spruce, for decoration. An unusual pendant lamp above the dining table with candles and fir branches deserves attention.

Candles and garlands

Apple candles will be an excellent decoration for the New Year's table. To create them you will need:

  • 8–10 pcs. apples;
  • round knife;
  • 8–10 pcs. scented candles with a diameter of 4 cm;
  • vase.

Using a round knife, blind holes are made in apples (preferably red) with a depth equal to the height of the candles. Candles are placed in the center of the fruit. After this, the apples are placed in a festive vase decorated with fir branches and the candles are lit. If you don’t have time, you can simply put the apples on a tray, placing a garland among them.

Crockery and menu design in red

In red table settings, it is best to give preference to snow-white dishes. This classic combination of colors when decorating a table is always relevant. You can put red cloth napkins on the plates, tied with a ring to look like a bow. Or wrap the cutlery in the same napkin, or serve it in burgundy envelopes.

New Year's tableware and menu - red design

If you prefer to see transparent glass or crystal dishes on the table, then you can add red colors using the menu.

  • Fill carafes with cherry juice or lemonade.
  • Place bowls of red caviar or bowls of red fruit, such as pomegranates or apples, on the table.
  • Serve beet salads, stuffed red peppers, or other treats of a matching hue.

Decorating the New Year's table in red is a classic! These shades will always be relevant for Christmas celebrations and New Year's Eve! But it is worth remembering that the best decoration for any holiday is a great mood and good company. Happy New Year!

Fruits

You can serve oranges, bananas, tangerines and grapes on the New Year's table in the usual way for everyone, beautifully arranging them on a vase. But you can present fruit in a more creative way. Eg:

  • arrange the chopped fruits on a plate in the shape of a Christmas tree;
  • prepare fruit canapés;
  • create a fruity snow mound by placing sliced fruits on a flat plate and generously sprinkling them with powdered sugar;
  • make funny snowmen from banana and fresh strawberries.

Angels with pipes (https://domnaraduge.com/azhurnye-angely-iz-bumagi/)

After I made openwork Christmas trees... and added voluminous snowflakes to them... the angels arrived!:) Last year I made these angels from openwork paper napkins: Christmas paper angels. And this year I cut them out according to the old pattern (how to make an angel out of paper), but they look more wonderful from openwork napkins!

Here is a simple diagram for a paper angel:

Decorating dishes

You need to decorate dishes on New Year's Eve according to the holiday. For example, in the form:

  • Christmas trees;
  • Santa Claus;
  • mittens;
  • snowman;
  • calendar;
  • masquerade mask;
  • fir cone.

You can serve salads, appetizers and cold cuts using these methods. At the same time, not only new dishes can be decorated in an original way, but also, for example, the classic Olivier dish. Read more about salads for the New Year →

DIY New Year's table decoration ideas

Comfort and a warm atmosphere are created by unique little things and funny details. Self-made compositions will be a pleasant surprise for guests and will decorate holiday photos. Suitable for decoration:

  • spruce paws, cones;
  • acorns;
  • ribbons, artificial flowers;
  • New Year's toys, tinsel, confetti;
  • Garlands;
  • candles;
  • fruits;
  • decorative stones for aquariums;
  • napkins, colored paper.

Candlesticks

A fresh solution is to make them from apples and oranges. Take colored wax strips and wrap them around the candle. Cut and press the tip close to the wick. Cut through the peel of the fruit and drop melted wax inside. Secure the candle. Pierce holes in the skin, insert toothpicks with glued rowan berries, aromatic spices, and rhinestones.

Update last year's accessories - cover them with sparkles, drape them with foil, cover them with colored acrylic paint. Ordinary jars and old glasses wrapped in lace and ribbons will successfully replace store-bought candlesticks. You can also paint them - with markers, nail polish, stained glass paints. If you plan to use gouache, first coat the jar with a layer of PVA glue and let it dry. To make candlesticks, you can use salt dough, clay, and pine cones. A composition of spruce and fir paws is a beautiful frame for large or figured candles.

Napkins

Textile ones add emphasized elegance to the design, but paper ones are more practical and cheaper. Choose beautiful napkins with New Year's themed prints and combine them with plain napkins. The simplest option is to wrap cutlery in them, tie them with a matching ribbon or natural materials.

To form a Christmas tree, take a square napkin made of fabric or paper and fold it in four. Align, turn the corners towards you. Bend each of them upwards one by one. Place your palm under the napkin and carefully turn it over, holding it between your hands. Fold the right and left corners to opposite edges. After turning it back over to the right side, hide each protruding triangle in the fold by folding it up. Decorate the plates with the resulting figures.

On a note!

Cutlery covers will add a touch of conviviality and coziness to your decor. A quick option is to sew them from felt. The models can be easily shaped into a Christmas tree, mittens, snowman, and decorated with beads and embroidery.

Holiday food decor

To decorate salads and appetizers, use fresh herbs, black olives, cherry tomatoes. Complete the New Year's table with unusual edible compositions:

  • snacks, rolls, canapes, collected in a Christmas tree;
  • Christmas wreaths made of vegetables - broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce;
  • baked goods decorated with cones of sliced almonds;
  • cakes, cheesecakes, decorated with sweets, stylized as New Year's toys;
  • cookies with glazed strawberries in the shape of small Christmas trees and mice;
  • figures of puffed rice soaked in syrup with multi-colored dragees.

Make funny little mice from boiled quail eggs: insert tails from greens, cheese ears, cut out noses and eyes from olives. They will decorate salads and cold appetizers. The traditional Olivier can easily turn into a symbol of 2020 if you give it the desired shape on a plate and add details of boiled sausage. Roll, secure two circles for the ears, make paws, a tail, use olives for the nose and eyes.
