Metal shutters for windows

Using shutters

The shutters protected the room from bright sunlight, wind and draft, external noise and performed a protective function. In addition, the carved original design became a decorative element and adorned the facade of a wooden house.

Today, shutters are an excellent alternative to curtains and blinds. They will protect from prying eyes, sunlight, noise and bad weather. Moreover, the designs are suitable for small and large, panoramic and roof windows. They will add sophistication and originality to the interior or exterior of the house.

Modern shutters are often installed inside the house, less often - outside. The design is distinguished by easy care and use, simple and quick installation, and aesthetic appearance. In addition, it provides reliable protection against unauthorized entry and can replace bars on windows. At the same time, shutters look more organic and comfortable than classic grilles.

Products are made from wood, metal and plastic. There are internal ranch shutters, roller shutters and louvered shutters, which are distinguished by inclined slats. They do not cover the windows completely, but let in a small amount of light and air. By the way, some types are suitable not only for windows, but also for doors.

What are decorative interior window shutters?

As a rule, these are two cut-out window sashes that swing open to the sides.

Shutters for plastic windows will fit perfectly into the interior of a room that needs to be darkened, thereby creating a certain privacy and romantic mystery. The best option is to use internal shutters on windows in the bedroom, as they will perfectly protect it from the severity of sunlight.

Most often, it is not shutters that are installed on windows, but blinds or curtains. Read what types of blinds there are. If instead of ordinary blinds you install ones built into a double-glazed window, the issue of washing will disappear. True, you need to choose quality ones so that you don’t have to replace them later.

Shutters in a wooden house

For a private wooden house, both external and internal shutters (shutters) are suitable. At the same time, it is important to choose an environmentally friendly and natural material that will not compromise safety and will emphasize the atmosphere of a wooden building. Therefore, in this case, only wood products are suitable.

Wood is characterized by environmental friendliness and naturalness, ease of installation and maintenance. Wood does not attract dust and looks aesthetically pleasing. Modern wooden shutters undergo special protective treatment, which prevents the negative effects of moisture and dampness, ultraviolet radiation and insects.

What materials are interior shutters typically made from?

Any window opening must be decorated, otherwise the room will look empty and too spacious. For this you can use both curtains with tulle and shutters. For the production of interior shutters, many different materials are used, which significantly affect the interior of a particular room. That is why decorative shutters, after several hundred years, do not lose their popularity and are actively used in the design of various rooms.

The most common material for making shutters is wood. This is a natural and environmentally friendly material that is distinguished by its durability. It is very easy to care for such shutters. This interior detail looks very stylish and expensive. Interior shutters can complement any style of room.

Experts call this option a classic model that does not lose its attractiveness today. Wooden shutters are completely coated with a special varnish for greater wear resistance. This decor looks especially interesting, equipped with forged elements that only add sophistication to the window opening.

Plastic shutters are no less popular. The attractiveness of this option lies in the savings. These shutters look no worse than their wooden counterparts. Plastic is even more practical and durable. In modern stores you can find many options - remotely controlled, sliding, swing, etc. Experts say that such shutters are an excellent alternative to plastic blinds.

Metal blinds are considered the least popular in the markets. This is a fairly reliable means of protection against unauthorized persons entering the house. But such shutters are not durable. In addition, with constant use in the summer, they become very hot, after which the room becomes even hotter. That is why experts do not recommend installing this decorative element on window openings.

As you can see, there is a huge variety of materials from which shutters are made. Everyone can choose a suitable option for themselves.

The most popular shutter models

Wooden shutters can be of different models. Their functionality also depends on this. Most often, there are only 4 types of shutters:

  • folded;
  • folding;
  • sliding;
  • folded-sliding.

The most common are folding shutters. These are lamella panels interconnected by special hinges. They are mobile and can change their appearance depending on their purpose. These shutters can be used to decorate not only window openings, but also doors. Their width should be no more than 180 cm.

Folded shutters have a similar appearance to folding shutters, they are made of panels that open almost 180°. The standard width of the panels is more than 65 cm. Thanks to some elements, it is possible to cover a wide doorway of more than 260 cm.

Sliding analogues move along special guides, which are hidden behind special visors. For one design, 2 such guides are used, which are stacked on top of each other. Thanks to this option of shutters, very large areas can be shaded.

The fold-and-slide type is a fairly large-scale mechanism that consists of a large number of relatively narrow panels. They move along special lower guides. Several panels with a total width of 127 cm can be installed.

Each option of wooden shutters has its own advantages and disadvantages. They can change their appearance, so you can design a window opening of any shape and size. Even semicircular and corner windows can look very beautiful and stylish thanks to special shutters.

OPERATION PROCESS

You need to start work with a sketch, which will give you an understanding of the image of the future product and allow you to calculate the required amount of material. The most acceptable option is to manufacture wooden shutters in a hinged version, from slats (Fig. 1, 2).

For work, a beam with a cross-section of 40×40 mm is used, a frame-frame is made from it, repeating the dimensions and shape of the window opening. Starting the assembly process, it is necessary to process all prepared parts with sandpaper or a grinder, then coat them with an antiseptic or varnish in several layers.

After assembling the frame, slats-lamellas are mounted into it from the inside at an angle of 45° (Fig. 2), which will protect against excessive insolation. The slats cut sequentially into one another, which will give the correct geometry and rigidity. The slats are secured with glue and self-tapping screws. The rigidity of the structure is added by overhead metal corners.

The finished structure is installed on the window of the house.
