The bathroom is one of the few rooms in the house that receives special attention. Here, more than anywhere else, comfort and coziness are important. To do this, you need to creatively approach the design of the bathroom walls. If you value comfort, one of the variations of mosaic panels is ideal for you! Since ancient times, mosaic panels have decorated the temples and palaces of ancient Egypt, Greece and even Rome. Don't you want to take a little trip? Previously, mosaics were the result of painstaking and complex work, requiring large costs, both economic and time. Today your wishes are more than real!

Mosaic panel styles

Mosaic panels play a vital role in the interior of a bathroom, and the Italmosaic studio will help you choose the option that suits your taste! Currently, the ideal of bathroom design is to decorate the walls with mosaic panels. You can come up with different combinations of materials, structures and colors yourself! If you are a fan of the classics, a plain glass mosaic will suit you. But if you are an art lover, then do not miss the opportunity to create a whole, luxurious picture or a unique pattern from mosaic elements. All in your hands!

Thanks to the specialists of the Italmosaic studio, all possible styles in this art form are available to you. For example, like:

  • Classic style, the peculiarity of which is “exemplary”. Classic style exists separately from world fashion and trends, so it will always be relevant. A bathroom decorated with mosaic panels in a classic style will give you peace and pleasure.
  • Art Nouveau style personifies the rejection of straightness and sharp angles, symbolizing naturalness and imitating natural lines. If you are a lover of natural or simply natural landscapes and paintings, you simply need a panel in this style. Decorating your bathroom in this way will help you relax and have a good rest not only physically, but also spiritually.
  • The Italian Baroque style is suitable for lovers of “controversial” art. Translated meaning “strange,” the Baroque style has taken its rightful place in the hearts of connoisseurs of triumphant, Western art. This style is characterized by such features as contrast, dynamism and tension of compositions. By choosing this style, you can combine reality and illusion.
  • Hi-tech style allows you to visually enlarge or reduce the room. This style is very suitable for pragmatic people. It is typical to use materials such as glass, metal and plastic.
  • One of the most luxurious styles, combining grandeur and lightness, sublimity and straightforwardness, is the Gothic style. Wall decoration in this style will add elegance and sophistication to the bathroom. Ideal for lovers of Western culture.

Pros and cons of mosaic panels in the interior - advice from an architect

A mosaic panel can complement both a restrained interior in a conservative classical style, and modern and laconic minimalism. Paintings, small ornaments or mosaic decor on the entire wall - any solution looks luxurious and stylish.

Having seen an interior with mosaics in a catalog or magazine, you will immediately want to implement the same idea in your home. But how practical is this solution? Is it easy to care for mosaic finishing, and what are the pros and cons of this material?

We asked the mosaic artist, architect and founder of the Diva Mosaic workshop divamozaica.ru Anatoly Adamovich about all the advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of mosaic

Beauty and exclusivity

Speaking about the positive aspects of mosaic decoration, one cannot fail to mention its visual appeal.

An artist from the Diva Mosaic workshop at work.

Artistic mosaic panels using Roman technique are real works of art that amaze with their craftsmanship, detail and depth of color. The master selects and processes each fragment by hand, so the result is a completely exclusive canvas. It is simply unrealistic to create two absolutely identical works, so your artistic mosaic panel will only be in a single copy.

Durability

Mosaic is one of the most durable materials. And this is clearly confirmed by the frescoes from the times of Ancient Rome and Greece, which have reached us in almost perfect condition.

Modern materials and compositions that are used for the manufacture and installation of mosaics make it possible to cover any type of surface. If all technologies and requirements are met, mosaic finishing retains its original appearance for many decades without the slightest defect.

Versatility

A variety of materials, colors and textures make it possible to realize any design idea of varying levels of complexity. For example, you can decorate both individual elements in a room (columns, niches, openings) and decorate the entire wall with a huge mosaic painting.

The material is excellent for decorating the surfaces of bathrooms, kitchens, corridors, bedrooms and living rooms. Mosaic finishing is also very popular for swimming pools, saunas and hammams. And recently, the service of decorating the facades of country houses and cottages with mosaic paintings and ornaments has become increasingly popular.

Practicality

The aesthetic appeal of mosaics is undoubtedly a key factor when choosing interior decoration. But no less important is how this material behaves “in everyday life.”

In practice, mosaic finishing is completely unpretentious. It does not require special cleaning agents, and any dirt can be easily removed with your usual detergent or ordinary soap solution. If there is stubborn dirt, you can safely use abrasive cleaners, rough brushes and hard sponges.

But in fairness, it should be said that using mosaic finishing to decorate a kitchen apron in the work area is a bad idea. Even with a good hood, it is difficult to avoid grease getting on the walls, so you will have to regularly wash and clean the surface.

Disadvantages of mosaic

Expensive

A high-quality, beautiful and exclusive mosaic product is an expensive pleasure that not everyone can afford. The high cost is due to the fact that natural and expensive materials (marble, smalt, Venetian glass) are used to create mosaic masterpieces. In addition, for durable installation of mosaics, you will need high-quality glue and grout, as well as a team of experienced and qualified builders and installers.

Add to all this the manual labor of the artist and the individual development of the design project and you will get a fairly high cost.

Difficulty of installation

The durability and performance characteristics of the mosaic finish largely depend on how professionally the installation is performed. Therefore, special attention should be paid to choosing experienced and trusted installers.

The difficulty of installation work lies in the fact that mosaic fragments need to be laid quickly and carefully, preventing the glue from drying out. Such a task requires the master to be dexterous and have many years of experience in working with this particular material. In addition, the surface on which installation is carried out must be perfectly flat, smooth and dry.

If you want to get a truly luxurious mosaic panel, we do not recommend entrusting such a delicate and delicate work to an incompetent master.

We thank the “Diva Mosaic” workshop for preparing this material and providing photographs.

Difficulties and nuances

Only poor quality work can ruin the impression of a work of art. It is difficult to insure yourself against this, but by contacting our specialists, you can be confident in the reliability, competence and quality of the work performed. Installation of the mosaic panel is carried out correctly and very carefully, at temperatures from +11 to +25 degrees Celsius. Italmosaic studio specialists carefully make markings, which eliminates the possibility of incorrect laying of mosaic sheets. The seams between the elements are carefully rubbed together, ensuring the longevity of your work of art. After these mandatory stages of work, our specialists perform a “final” cleaning of the composition, giving it a final luxurious look.

If you need to personalize your bathroom, and you want to be one hundred percent confident in the quality and reliability of the work, just call us! We will help you choose, design and install mosaic panels for your bathroom.

How to make a mosaic panel

It is still unknown who is the creator of the mosaic panel . However, it became quite widespread in Ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt. The creation of such masterpieces requires real jewelry handicraft. Making mosaic panels was highly valued and was common among rich and noble people. Mosaic panels , created from small pieces, give the interior a unique and unique style. Panels made in Roman or Greek style are considered the most relevant. However, when creating a mosaic panel, you can improvise. Various photographs can be made in the form of a mosaic panel.

To create a mosaic panel with your own hands, first select a drawing, then digitize it and, using the program, create a diagram of the future masterpiece. In order to give the living room a unique look or to decorate the pool, large pieces are used. This way you can easily create the effect of large brush strokes. Using a mosaic panel you can also create a unique building facade. Using small pieces to create a panel will demonstrate smooth transitions from one color scheme to another and create the integrity of the overall design. A mosaic panel made by a professional can hardly be distinguished from a painting. The mosaic panel will fit well into any interior and will not take up much space.

It can also be made the main element of the room or used to highlight individual interior elements. Very high quality materials are used to create mosaic panels. Therefore, such a product will not only become a decorative decoration, but will also last for many years. The use of mosaic panels is suitable for decorating swimming pools, baths, and bathrooms. You can make a mosaic panel yourself. To do this, you need to select a drawing, then use Photoshop to draw a sketch of it. Such a drawing will become the basis of the future panel. It is transferred to the base and partitions are built up at home using the galvanic method. The result will be cells in the form of a honeycomb. All that remains is to fill them with smalt and the mosaic panel is ready.

Mosaic on garden paths, platforms and patios

A garden path paved with multi-colored mosaics will always look more interesting than plain paving. By the way, it is not necessary to lay out the path in mosaics along its entire length. You may also prefer a combined option, when mosaic segments alternate with concrete, brick or stone sections. It is convenient to use pebbles of approximately the same size as a mosaic material for garden paths, with the help of which a textured texture is created.

Mosaic of pebbles laid in metal square shapes

Entire mosaic areas or small courtyards are designed using the same principle. It is quite difficult to completely cover large areas with mosaics, while maintaining the desired pattern - this will require some skill. In this case, it is more convenient to use the principle of zoning and pave recreation areas with mosaic panels, for example, an area near a pool or a dining area.

Ceramic mosaics are often used to decorate Moorish-style courtyards

Mosaic and garden furniture

Concrete, metal or wooden garden furniture, if desired, can also be decorated with bright mosaic designs. Modern adhesives allow you to fix mosaics on almost any hard surface. Mosaics are especially often used to decorate garden tables. Concrete chairs or benches will also be transformed if you line them with ceramic or glass shards, although this option is still more suitable for southern regions with hot, long summers.

Glass mosaic on a metal table top

For decorating outdoor summer kitchens, mosaic is a real find. It can be used to decorate countertops or a work wall. It is important that the mosaic is easy to clean, so fat or soot is removed from it without a trace.

Nuances of the Moorish style in landscape design

The concept of the style can be called the creation of a picturesque and well-groomed oasis with lush vegetation, exotic flowers, heady aromas, running streams and sparkling fountains.

The basis for the layout of the Moorish garden is the “chor-bagh” principle, which involves dividing the site into four equal parts (four gardens) with a fountain in the center. In the case of filling large areas, each of the sections, by analogy, is divided into the same number of fragments.

The relief of the site is essential. Ideally it should be completely flat.

A special role is given to water, which, as a source of life, is sacred. According to Muslim legends, four rivers flow from the Garden of Eden in different directions. In the design they are represented by small channels, or less often by stylized paths diverging at right angles in the corresponding directions from the central fountain.

When planning a Moorish garden, it should be taken into account that the water in it should be visible from any point. It is surrounded by attention and used carefully and sparingly. Here the noise of the seething stream is inaudible, instead there is a calming, quiet murmur.

An essential part of the eastern garden is also the patio, hidden from prying eyes by a hedge of ornamental shrubs. As a rule, it is adjacent to the house, but can also be located in the center of the garden composition.

Impeccable symmetry plays an important role when decorating a site in the Moorish style. However, lush vegetation somewhat smoothes out the strict geometric contours, making them slightly blurry in places.

The Moorish garden has one very significant difference from other similar compositions. Statues depicting people and animals are never installed here.

Styles in landscape design, list with photos

Basic materials: what can you use?

Not only classic glass or acrylic mosaic tiles, but also many other materials are suitable for laying out a mosaic composition. Among them:

  • ceramic tile fight
  • fragments of dishes (ceramic, porcelain, glass)
  • small stones or pebbles
  • colored quartz sand, decorative chips
  • shells
  • coins
  • bottle caps or other waste material

Glass mosaic, broken ceramic tiles, colored quartz sand - all this can be used for garden mosaic compositions

All these materials, correctly selected and laid in a mosaic panel, will add bright, exclusive notes to the design of your garden plot. And where can they be used? Read below.

Mosaic on walls and fences

Mosaic designs can also be created on vertical surfaces, including on fences or walls of houses. The facade of the building, lined with mosaics and adjacent to a recreation area made in the same style, will create the appearance of compositional completeness - a “room” in the garden. Retaining or small decorative walls decorated with mosaics will save you from the need to create complex landscape compositions.

A flowerpot with fresh flowers on the corner of the house does not obscure the mosaic pattern on the facade, but complements it
