How to clean up your hallway
The procedure for creating perfect order in the hallway:
Preparation.
Prepare six baskets, one for each category:
- Leave
- Sell/Give away
- Throw away/Recycle
- Another room
- Shoes
- Accessories
Sorting.
Place all the things from the hallway into baskets - absolutely everything. The hallway should be empty when you're done - just leave the furniture and six full bins (you can take more bins or change categories if they don't work for you). Get rid of things you no longer use, don't want to use, have fallen out of love with, or don't need. Get rid of as much clutter as possible.
Cleaning.
Do a general cleaning: vacuum or wash the floor and all rugs. Wipe down the door, baseboards, door handles and switch plates. Clean all lamps and fixtures. Get to every crack and every nook and cranny!
Organization.
To organize storage in the hallway, again pay attention to baskets. Take the items in the corresponding basket to “Other Rooms”. Throw out the trash. Take the items you want to donate to your car and the items you want to sell to your garage so you can photograph them and post them on a sales site or wait for a sale.
Here's what you need to keep in the hallway at the "launching pad":
- Shoes
- Backpacks, briefcases and folders, wallets
- Keys
- Shopping bags
- Umbrellas
- Calendars
- Jackets and coats
- Cold Weather Items
- Things for walking the dog
- To-do lists
- Cords for charging gadgets.
Where to begin?
If a small Apocalypse has occurred in your apartment, you should put not only scattered things on shelves, but also your thoughts. First, determine the scope of work and only then start putting things in order.
To make cleaning as quick and painless as possible, you should delimit the space into zones. Each room in the house requires a special approach, so you shouldn’t chaotically try to restore order everywhere at once.
Kitchen
Cleanliness and order in the kitchen largely depend on the order in the cabinets, shelves and work area. To get rid of the feeling of clutter, you should follow simple rules.
- Use organizers. They will help you store various useful little things together and not create chaos.
- The clean sink rule. If dirty dishes accumulate in it, the kitchen immediately feels disorganized. Get rid of it after every meal, rather than putting this work off until later.
- Angles. If all the corners of your kitchen are filled with water bottles, saucepans, stools and other nonsense, the free space will disappear.
- Tabletop. Do not leave unnecessary items on it - knives, forks, storage jars.
- The more cabinets and shelves, the better. Store everything in them - from garbage bags to small household appliances, and do not leave anything in sight.
When starting to clean the kitchen, you should remember that some surfaces will have to be thoroughly washed to remove grease and other “kitchen” contaminants. But if meta, which many housewives forget about.
- Top of wall cabinets. One of the most difficult areas to clean. But it is the dust that mixes with the grease, creating a terribly dirty film. This kind of “plaque” should be gotten rid of first.
We recommend reading the article “How to clean the oven from carbon deposits and grease.”
- Joints between tiles. Once white and clean, over time they turn grayish and sticky. Don’t forget to wash them with a degreaser every time you do a general cleaning.
- Kitchen cabinet handles. Grease and dust also settle on them, making them sticky and dirty. At first glance, this is not always noticeable, but once you wash one such pen, the difference will become clearly visible.
Bathroom
Cleanliness in the bathroom is not only the key to order in the house, but also the first necessity from a hygienic point of view. If you do not follow the cleaning rules, fungus and woodlice can easily grow in a damp room.
To ensure that your bathroom and toilet are sparkling clean, and you don’t have to spend your entire weekend cleaning, you need to follow the rules.
- We start from the ceiling. As a rule, in the bathroom it is made of plastic panels or tiles in order to be able to wipe it.
- Shower stall or bath. It should be washed with special products to get rid of soap scum and stains. If you have a shower stall, the glass must be thoroughly wiped to get rid of drips.
- Plumbing. Faucets, showers - all this requires constant care. The metal should shine and not be completely coated. When cleaning the bathroom, pay special attention to this.
- Bath accessories. Over time, jars, tubes and bottles standing on shelves also become covered with dust. Periodically, they should be “bathed” in running water.
- Shelves. While bottles with shampoo and shower gel are being “washed”, there is time to wipe the shelves from drops, foam and dust.
- Floors. As a rule, moisture-absorbing mats are placed in bathrooms, but even they cannot completely protect against water getting on the floor. Therefore, first of all, go over with a dry cloth, and only after that start washing the tiles.
- Toilet. It is this that usually becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and infections. The toilet should be thoroughly washed with detergent, paying attention to hard-to-reach places. Wash the lid separately and with a different sponge to avoid transferring harmful microorganisms.
Classic hallways and full-fledged wardrobes
The top 10 options for storing things in the hallway are cabinet and modular furniture . A large three or four door wardrobe with mezzanines will fit not only seasonal, but also all outerwear. The upper shelves can be used for boxes, packages and baskets. In the lower compartments with mesh shelves and a tray, place casual boots and shoes; retractable transparent sections are suitable for gloves, scarves and umbrellas. The middle will be occupied by hangers.
Modular hallways allow you to combine and distribute storage sections in any order, creating a harmonious and stylish space
. A wall-mounted or free-standing hanger, a console with a pair of drawers for small items and a mirror, a shoe cabinet with a soft bench, a closed storage section - the list of modules and their purpose depends only on your wishes and the size of the room.
Hallway in Scandinavian style
The storage system in the hallway, organized using open furniture , is characteristic of the Scandinavian style. Simplicity and conciseness benefit small rooms. Agree that in a narrow corridor a mobile rack with hangers and a rug for several pairs of shoes would look more appropriate than a bulky closet.
If you associate this option with a government establishment, take a closer look at the compact open wall, the upper part of which is a wooden panel with several hooks and a shelf for hats, and the lower part is designed in the form of a bench
. The space under the bench can be used to store shoes.
