Baskets

techniques for properly decorating walls with wicker dishes and flat baskets:

Let's start with the fact that all these rules are valid for any eco- and ethnic decor of a round or oval shape. So, if you like bamboo dishes (like “Gultet” from IKEA) or come across wicker trays with such a “smooth” shape, you can safely use them according to the same rules.

No. 1 - background:

The optimal background is a single color, based on the principle of “similarity” or “contrast”. The main thing is that it should be quite laconic in texture and not look too “combed” (=feminine).

Decorative plasters (and wallpaper imitating them), eco-wallpaper made from natural materials (grasses and vines), natural wood and brick walls.

No. 2 - what's nearby:

Such wall decorations look most impressive when combined with objects from a harmonious style (country, rustic, eco, minimalism). All of the above trends gravitate towards simple forms of furniture and natural textures. Natural wood, wicker chairs, tables, chair seats and baskets, mats and bamboo blinds are great companions for ethnic wall decor or flat baskets.

There is another technique that can be used: similarity in shape or color. A round or oval table, a round rug, a chest of drawers in a shade that is available on a platter are just a few examples that are appropriate if natural furniture textures do not suit you for financial reasons.

No. 3 - combinations of several dishes:

Quite rarely, such decor is used in a single copy. Usually - if the dish or basket has a large diameter. In all other cases, it is preferable to create a composition from several items, especially since it is sometimes difficult to choose - you like several models at once.

Here are some selection principles.

applies to both dishes and baskets:

  • purchase several absolutely identical items;
  • choose several items of different sizes, and something should be repeated in them (the main shade, pattern or type of weaving).

the rest applies only to dishes and is valid for any quantity:

  • same basic tone;
  • one main color of the design;
  • the same type of ornament (for example, spirals);
  • same origin (they differ especially in different African countries).

No. 4 - multi-colored eco-dishes on the walls:

Similar multicolored ethnic dishes are characteristic of African countries, and baskets are also found in Southeast Asia. The main rule is a white or very light neutral background + a fairly large area of free wall. Only in this case will such decor look truly impressive.

If you want to “support the theme” with something, use related accessories (of similar origin or at least in a similar color palette), this applies to carpets, pillows, vases, bowls, etc.

Operational features and rules for caring for wicker chairs

Careful operation and proper care will ensure a long service life of such furniture.

If you decide to choose a wicker model for your home, then it is wise to listen to the advice of experts.

  • It is allowed to use the products in the temperature range from 5 to 40 °C and humidity from 70 to 90%.
  • Wicker items protect from prolonged exposure to the sun.
  • Contact with organic solvents is not allowed, since the surface is usually coated with a protective varnish.
  • Hot cups and plates can leave unsightly marks on the surface.
  • When installing outdoors, you should take care of creating a canopy that will protect the furniture from the scorching sun and unexpected rain.

Clean the product using a vacuum cleaner, brush or dry cloth made of cloth, flannel, or velvet. Abrasive products are not suitable for these purposes. Contamination in the form of lipstick and wine can be treated with a swab dipped in a solution of ethyl alcohol. Fat is removed using talc; it is advisable to carry out the procedure in the shortest possible time. Sprinkle the powder on the contaminated area and leave to absorb. If a single treatment does not give the desired result, it can be repeated several times with a new portion of talc.

The chewing gum is exposed to an ice cube and it is removed without any residue.

Linseed oil will help restore the cracked structure of rattan. It is slightly heated and applied to the damaged area until it stops being absorbed. Then wipe the product with a cloth, rubbing in any remaining product. After a day it can be used again.

If the chair is woven from wicker, you will have to remove the damage and repeat the weaving again.

To preserve the appearance, once a month the surface is treated with polish.

The web of cracks can be masked by treating with beeswax.

An unpleasant squeak occurs if the furniture is dry. You can fix the problem by covering the chair with a slightly damp cloth. In the future, it is necessary to ensure that the humidity level in the room is maintained, since excessive dryness is also harmful for such products.

Excessive yellowness will be removed by a salt solution, and stain will help restore the original color. The surface is first sanded with fine-grain sandpaper and the resulting dust is removed. Finally, a layer of colorless varnish is applied.

wall decor with wicker dishes and flat baskets in the interior of different rooms

We will look at several rooms where such wall decor would be appropriate. But first, let us draw your attention: in the dining room and kitchen it looks most appropriate, in the living room and hallway it greatly influences the style, in the bedroom only real fans use it.

in the dining room : Given the original functionality of dishes and baskets, it is most logical to place them here. The background can be not only a free wall, but also the space around the buffet, on both sides of the window and above the chest of drawers for storing spare dishes and cutlery.

in the living room : As a rule, they decorate the wall above the sofa in this way, but sometimes above the console table or fireplace.
The “free wall” rule remains in force, if, of course, you have one. To prevent ethnic decor from looking lonely, it is advisable to complement the interior with accessories that match the color or texture of the wall decoration. Pillows or a small rug in the same color scheme, or with clearly expressed ethnic motifs, are quite suitable.

in the bedroom : The wall above the head of the bed is perhaps the only appropriate solution. for home office : In this section we have included examples of the use of wicker wall decor also in a practical role - as boards for small papers. In our opinion, this is a very original alternative to factory-made organizing boards.

Rattan furniture

Modern stores offer a variety of wicker furniture made from willow, cattail, bamboo and other materials. Rattan furniture has become especially popular. Do-it-yourself wicker furniture made from this material is an ideal choice. Rattan is a tropical climbing vine. The length of the rattan stem sometimes reaches 250 m, and it is the longest plant in the world. It has excellent qualities for weaving: it has a very even trunk (can maintain the same diameter up to a height of about 4 meters), there are no knots, it is covered with strong bark, and inside there is soft wood and a hard core.

Rattan is also called rattan. The word comes from the English surname Rattan, they were Indonesian planters who gave Europe a love for wicker rattan furniture. To obtain a white (hardened) rod, it is boiled. In a large container with a lid, bring water to a boil and lower the material into it.

The rod should be cooked over high heat for one hour, and the rest of the time over moderate heat. In order for the rod to turn out light, 2 hours are enough; to obtain darker shades, up to 4 hours of cooking are required. After cooking, the rod must be immediately cleared of bark, otherwise it will lose its presentation. You can remove the bark with a rough glove or a splinter through which a rod is pulled.

If you want to get a truly elegant product, then a combination of a whole rod and gloss (ribbon) will be the ideal solution. The rod is usually split into 2-3 parts with a special splitter or knife. Ribbons are cut from the resulting parts. Unfortunately, you can learn to do this deftly and quickly only after gaining some experience.

drawings and shades of ethno-dishes:

And here are a few examples of ethnic dishes that are easy to find in online stores and in exotic stores. Concentric circles, spirals and even ikat designs can be drawn on them.

As you can see, among them there are laconic options (in the West Elm store) and much more colorful ones (you need to look for them on the websites of direct suppliers or purchase them while on vacation). In the latter case, you can specifically select dishes to suit the palette of your interior, according to the season or according to your mood. Good luck with your choice and impressive results!
