Sliding wardrobe with engraving on frosted glass

wardrobe with mirror

One of the most common options for sliding wardrobes is with a built-in mirror. Usually, when choosing this option, buyers have in mind a full-length mirror from floor to ceiling, the entire height of the cabinet.

Why are sliding wardrobes with a mirror in steady demand and very popular among customers?

  • Visually increase the space of any room;
  • Give more light due to the reflection of a chandelier or spotlights;
  • Indispensable in the bedroom and hallway to get yourself in order;
  • Fits perfectly into any room - from oriental-style solutions to ultra-modern Scandinavian clean interiors;
  • Significantly “lightens” the interior, making it airy and light. The use of frameless mirrors helps create the effect of a mirrored wall.

Selection rules

When choosing, the following dimensions are important:

  • height - it depends on the height of the ceiling. On average, it varies from 2.6 m to 3.1 m;
  • product width - the minimum size is considered to be 1.20 meters. Exactly as much is needed to equip a sliding door system;
  • depth, which is selected taking into account the wishes of the owners;
  • the thickness of the mirror - the reliability and safety of the non-standard facade will depend on it.

Life-size mirror or not?

Depending on the design of your interior and the facade finishing materials used, you can choose a full-length or small mirror. In the first case, one or more sashes are made mirrored. In the second, the mirror is fixed exclusively in one or several “squares”, and the rest are occupied by ordinary facade panels.

This arrangement is suitable for interiors where there is already a large mirror or where you want to emphasize the design of other furniture by choosing a façade that matches the color. Small mirrors are great for spacious bedrooms with interior elements in the same color as the facade. This option is more practical if there are small children or large animals in the house - there is less chance that they will break it.

Having chosen a full-length mirror, you need to decide on the number of mirror doors. For some interiors, one door is enough. Some clients prefer mirrored sliding wardrobes with 4 or more mirror doors. Such solutions look especially impressive in small, bright rooms with distributed lighting. Another option for an ideal wardrobe design is a hidden frame with a mirror across the entire width of the door. When folded, the doors create the effect of a continuous mirror surface.

Advantages and disadvantages of a wardrobe for a modern home

A modern wardrobe can solve several problems at the same time.

It can act either as an element of a set or as an independent piece of furniture, blend in color with the overall scheme of the room or become its accent, decorate the interior or go unnoticed, but at the same time regularly play the role of a spacious and practical storage system.

So, the advantages of a sliding wardrobe include the following:

  • the most rational use of the available space in the room to create an effective storage system. If we talk about the built-in option, then it is the most efficient way to use every square centimeter of space;
  • sliding cabinet doors allow you to install it in any accessible place in the room, and this is an undeniable advantage for small rooms, such as a hallway, for example;
  • for a bedroom, there is no need to purchase a bulky set and rack your brains over its placement in a medium-small room; in a closet you can fold and hang not only your entire wardrobe, but also place shoes, accessories, bed linen and other things;
  • Proper filling of a wardrobe allows you to create not only simple storage, but an effective system for arranging all wardrobe items, allowing you to find the right item as quickly as possible and store it in the most favorable conditions (clothes, shoes and accessories do not wrinkle or become deformed);
  • with the help of a built-in wardrobe, you can visually change the parameters of the room - “stretch” it in height, width or length;
  • the original design of a wardrobe can become a key element of the interior, decorate it, and raise the level of exclusivity;
  • With the help of a wardrobe, you can zone rooms, using it as an interior partition. For example, you can separate a workplace or bathroom in the bedroom, or use a closet for zoning in a spacious studio room with a large set of functional segments.

The wardrobe has few disadvantages and some of them can be completely eliminated if you put more effort and time into finding the best option:

  • If you move or change the layout of the room, the built-in wardrobe will have to be left in its place. The chances that the parameters for adding furniture in a new apartment will be exactly the same are very small;
  • most models created to individual sizes exceed the cost of similar ready-made solutions in furniture stores;
  • There are stylistic trends in the design of living spaces, into which it will not be easy to fit a wardrobe organically. You will have to spend more time and money to make a wardrobe with sliding doors look harmonious in a classic, baroque, shabby chic or Provence style.

Pure or patterned?

The fronts of wardrobes with mirrors are often decorated with a pattern to give your home individuality and charm. The pattern can be made using sandblasting or appliqué. In the first case, the glass is matted, in the second, a film image is applied to its surface.

Mirrors with a pattern help emphasize a certain interior design of a room. Sometimes large, clean mirrors can add dissonance to too bright and empty interiors. In this case, it is recommended to choose a suitable pattern.

Part of the mirror can also be covered with MDF panels on top. Mirrors can be inserted inside the panels, or frame them. Milled MDF facades allow you to bring any design idea to life, including designing a sliding wardrobe in the style of classicism.

Facade decoration

When choosing a facade design for a sliding wardrobe with mirrored doors, two main parameters must be taken into account:

  • specifics of the purpose of the room;
  • dimensions of the product plus its design.

For their manufacture, various materials are used in combination with a mirror:

All types of mirror doors can be equipped with inserts of other materials:

  • colored glass for facades is a transparent surface, on the back side of which a film is glued, acting as anti-fragmentation protection;
  • bamboo is varnished sections of the plant, painted in pastel colors. There are also rattan inserts;
  • eco-leather is created by embossing on a film with a fabric base. Sliding wardrobes with leather are not so common, but they always look original and stylish;
  • Photo printing is created by printing on transparent glass. A white film is glued onto the resulting surface, filling the gaps in the design.

The color schemes of the facades are selected depending on the purpose of the room:

  • for a children's room, a bright façade with photo printing will be organic;
  • in the living room, the selection of door materials for cabinets depends entirely on the overall interior:
  • bamboo is appropriate in ethnic style. It goes well with frosted glass;
  • sliding wardrobes with leather are perfect for modern classic design and rooms in the Art Nouveau style;
  • photo printing - for romantic;
  • light shades and decorative patterns - for coupes in Provence style.

Mirror facades for sliding wardrobes can be made in various versions.

Depending on the size of the model, they may differ in the number of doors and the location of mirrors or glass:

  • A two-door coupe is usually chosen for a small room or with limited free space;
  • The spacious room includes a 4-door coupe with a mirror. The closet here will look organic;
  • In the middle between two mirrors you can place 2 smooth panels. Or make similar doors with a personalized engraving on them.

Where to put a mirrored wardrobe?

A mirrored wardrobe is not very suitable for the kitchen and bathroom, but for the hallway, living room and especially for the bedroom it will be indispensable.

  1. Mirrored wardrobe for the bedroom The bedroom is the place where you want to be after a hard day at work with an interesting book in your hands and a mug of hot tea, this is the place where you take a break from problems, gain strength and start a new day. The bedroom should be cozy, spacious and conducive to comfortable rest. Therefore, mirror panels will add space and lightness to your secluded nest, and you will be able to forget and escape from worldly worries.
  2. A mirrored wardrobe in a living room design will be no less appropriate than in a bedroom. It will perfectly complement the interior, allow you to free up space by hiding unnecessary things, and give you free rein for your imagination. In addition to the fact that you yourself will be able to choose how the cabinet panels will look, you will be able to take part in the design of shelves and drawers at your discretion. External shelves that are not closed by panel doors can be unusually decorated with vases, photo frames, containers with unusual fillings (for example, dried fruit, unusually curved tree driftwood, sea salt granules), decorative lamps and many other unusual things.
  3. And finally, the hallway. Everything is clear here. Behind neat mirror panels you can hide bulky jackets, boxes with shoes, hats, scarves, bags, shoe brushes and the like from prying eyes. A mirrored wardrobe will make the hallway spacious and bright.
