Designers advise installing a wide counter, since you can sit at it like at a regular table, and high chairs are quite suitable for the whole family. However, in small rooms (16 sq m), narrow counters are installed. Kitchen islands are convenient to use, but are only suitable for large kitchen-dining rooms (25 sq m or 30 sq m). Capital low partitions are installed only if it has been decided in advance what they will be used for (for example, as a TV stand).

Plywood laptop table

Hello everyone, today I will tell you how a DIY master made a laptop table with his own hands. This table can be used both for working on a laptop and for playing games. Tools and materials:
1. Plywood 2. Laser cutter 3. Wood glue 4. Band saw

1. The author measured the dimensions of the laptop stand and keyboard, and found out that the upper part of the stand may be narrower than the bottom. So the author designed it in AutoCAD as a stand with splayed legs.

Next, I cut out pieces using a laser cutter from 9 mm plywood with slots for semicircles. Note that half the circle is exactly half the depth of the pieces, i.e. 12.5mm out of 25mm.

When laser cutting, you must consider the width of the slot or the width of the laser beam when designing. This is done to ensure that the parts fit tightly together.

2. The gaps turned out to be small and the author had to hammer in all the parts with a rubber hammer. In the end, this happened and the first version broke in several places. Therefore, the author decided to test the design for strength. It was a fairly durable design and was not broken by any household items. In the end the author simply stepped on to break it in half.

3. Therefore, the author returned to AutoCAD and changed the depth of the joints in the semicircle. You can see that the slots are now much smaller in the long legs compared to the short crosses. This is because the long sections of the legs have to do all the heavy lifting, spanning 480mm from end to end, while the short cross sections only need to cover the 20mm (less than an inch) between the legs.

The author also adjusted the width of the slots to give a little more room to maneuver.

Next I cut it out on the laser cutter again, although you could probably print out the plans and cut it out on a bandsaw or scroll saw. The author has added plans in DXF and PDF formats. Plans in A1 format, dimensions in mm. The slots are designed with a diameter of 8.2mm, which is ideal for 9mm plywood (laser cutting ends closer to 9mm due to the kerf of the cut.) You may have to play with the laser cutter's own offset settings to work to suit yours requirements. machine tolerances.

4. This time all the parts came together much easier, without much abuse from the hammer. The author then left it outside for a few days to let the charred smell go away. The smell of laser cut plywood can be quite strong at first.

Then the author wiped it with mineral oil, simply wiped it with a rag.

5. Here's what the project looks like with the oil finish. The author likes the contrast between the charred edges and the light wooden edges. The waffle top piece is also quite interesting, but most of the time it is hidden under the laptop.

6. I think the use of this is pretty obvious. You can only use it with a laptop or with a laptop dock. All cords are located at the back.
